i have a 1.8 5speed mazda protege.its very high miles and alot of fun , i need to know if there is a better moter with 6 speed combo i can swap with little modifacation, it only has 100 hp and 27 mpg. plus it rpms pass 2000 rpm ay 50mph so i need that sixth gear.  if anyone can help me with this combo im looking for i thank you

yes and no. there is the mazdaspeed 2.0L. but they only come with a 5spd transmission.

no, you will need a new ecu and wiring harness. i believe the motor mounts are the same and other parts are the same.
