Hey I was wondering what engine swap could I do on my 1998 eclipse gs? And would it even be worth it to do it?

any swap you do will require a lot of one off work. you will either have to swap your whole front clip for that of a gst or a gsx, or you can get a custom set up to fit an evo 4g63t or a 3g 4g64.

I got the car for about 2 thousand but would it be less just to get a gsx? Or do the swap?

the gsx will run around 4000-8000, matters if its stock or modded, model yr, milage. the engine swap can be around 5000-12000. matters on what shop you take it to. if you do the swap, you can probably do it for around 4000-8000, matters on what engine you choose.

So no matter what I'm looking at spending more the 4000 on either one. If it were your care what would you do?

keep the gs as a daily driver, its really not that bad of a car if properly maintained and taken car of. the car is paid off, isnt it. then buy a gst or gsx, or something that is easier to mod.

for around $1500 you can turbo charge the 420a engine that is currently in your car.

the 420a is not worth doing those mods to it. the block is to thin and week. you will end up blowing the head or cracking the block if you put a turbo on it. yes, some people have built a proper turboed 420a, but they spent over $8000 just rebuilding the engine.

The GS platform can house the Evo 8 4g63t. It actually bolts in with minimal modification replacing the 420a. The only issue here in my opinion, is now you have a 400+whp car that is fwd. I am not going to be like so many people and tell you to just go out and buy an AWD, just research your build and spend money properly. DO NOT buy replica parts, and also research shops in your area for their reputation. Find an import shop if possible. There is a world of difference between your dads old camaro and a gen2 eclipse so let the proper people do the work. A good book to buy for something like this is "how to build max performance 4g63 engines" by Robert Bowen,

I know I am kinda butting in here but I went the AWD route. The 4g63 in the GSX is capable of 1000 whp and that can be proven by going to youtube and watching this video. I am not at that extreme, but it is entirely possible but just be prepared to pay out about $25 grand. I am dynoing right now at 650+ whp and I have spent over $16,000 on motor, turbo, sheppard transmission, new drivelines, new axles, new clutch, all new evo 8 engine interiors, evo 8 head, ems, new computer, and the list goes on. It all depends on what you want to do.
