I own a '93 240sx and I don't know where to begin. I'm currently on a student budget and I realize I wouldn't be able to build a crazy fast dragster, I just want something fun to drive me and my girlfriend around in. If anyone could suggest any "beginner" parts such as drop-in air filters or oem engine part swaps it would be greatly appreciated. As I said before I'm completely new to this and I only aim for a fun daily driver, for now that is.

And if anyone could give any insight as to whether i would be able to compete with a VW Baja Bug with a 1600cc engine in a straight-away, my girlfriend's younger brother keeps trash talking my car and thinks the VW his daddy is gonna give him would blow my car away

There a "Where to start" thread on here. You should start with Cold Air Intake. Oil Filter. Intake manifold. And some exhaust work depending on your exact budget what kind of exhaust you should get. Lower the car a couple of inches. And when it's time to replace tires go with a more performance tire for grip. That's would where you should start looking around. Anything that helps your car breath better is where I would start, intake and exhaust. Keep us updated on your project and if you have anymore questions. I hope this helps.

How much experience do you have cornering in the 240?  It may be better to race the bug on a curvier course.  The RR layout of the bug will give it an advantage launching in a drag race.

oh sorry i didnt realize there was a thread up already .Faster. Im a little new here. But all your info helps alot. I'm gonna get started on looking for cold air intakes and oil filters since they seem the cheapest. Do you have any recommendations as far as what companies to look for?

Sideways I dont have a whole lot of experience cornering in my 240 but I do know its limits. From what I hear the VW 1600cc engine isn't quickest thing around, but neither is mine. I just dont wanna be shown up by that guy in the event of a race.

It's cool. It's take a while to get used to things. Personally I would go for K&N Cold Air Intake and Oil Filters. They last for ever and are reusable. They are a really trusted company too. There's a lot of companies with Cold Air Intake some of them are Injen, Spectre, HKS, AEM and others. In some of the import magazines they do testing of which is best on certain cars, you could look into that. Just look online for which companies have it for your engine and which add the most power for cheapest. I personally would go for K&N though. Sorry for taking a while to repost. I hope this help. Post again with anymore questions.
