Hi I am new to this site and tuning cars I am on the market for my first tuner a friend of mine told me a good place to start is the IS300 would he be correct in saying so and if not would anyone throw some cars out there for me thanks and my budget for the actual car is 10k..also I would like a car that is affordable to tune not burn a whole in my pocket thanks (also is going to be a daily driver) and tuning /boosting the car does not have to be dirt cheap

The IS300 is a quality car and honestly I have wanted one for a while.  If I remember correctly, it comes with a Non-turbo 2JZ, which is a decent engine, but don't mistake it for a 2JZ-GTE because there are more differences than just the lack of turbo.

If you want to look at other cars, check out the new car sticky thread on the forums.

Thank you for your input I know the 2jz gte which is in the tt supra is clearly capable of more boost then the 2jz ge but could this be by passed by some internal work to the engine?

you could but it would be easier and cheaper to just put the money towards a 2JZGTE to swap in.

Well here's the thing: to make a 2JZ-GE into a GTE (assuming the two blocks are made of the same metal, which I am not 100% percent sure it is) you need to add a full turbo kit and new internals and rebuild the entire engine.  It's just more bang for your buck to buy a new/slightly used one.

Well I got a quote from my shop and to turbo the stock 2jz ge with a srt kit would run me 10grand but along with all that extra HP the tranny cannot handle it so to swap the stock auto tranny to an r154 would run me another 5.6 grand >.< I am not sure how much a 2jz gte swap would run me but im sure its more due to all the custom work for all the fittings

If the 2JZ's do have something in common it's the motor mounts.  Plus think of it this way: turbo kit+internals+a separate trans should be right around the same price as a stock 2JZ-GTE already mated with a trans.  So if I'm right on that, then it comes down to: would the shop charge you more just to do a swap or charge more to do the swap plus the complete tear-down, rebuild, addition of a turbo kit, and trans work.

It's completely up to you what you want to do with your car, but both jching and I have been over this exact subject before.  It's cheaper to just get a 2JZ-GTE and swap it in.  Plus, added bonus: afterwards you can sell the 2JZ-GE and probably get a grand back, maybe more.  Trust me, even an non-turbo 2JZ will get a lot of attention on craigslist.

Ha yes I have seen this question asked many times before but with a varied response from people lacking the knowledge spewing laughable comments from the side of their mouth not knowing their head from their arse on the other hand your response seems to be educated your advice was well received I will head down to my tuner, also does the 5 speed gear box (r154)mount up to the 2jz gte because I would like a lower range gear box for torque in the lower end because I also share the love of being sideways as it seems you do sidewayspanda

you might want to research how to mount an r154 with a 2jzgte.  i've heard it can be done but they won't just bolt directly together.  you're going to need to make some modifications as well as pick up some extra parts.  if you're going the 2jzgte route have you looked at the v16x or the w58?
