2002 Subaru Impreza WRX

My buddy just got a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX for dirt cheap and its beat to *** oil leaks, boost leaks, etc, etc. but, it has potential. That being said, we want to know if we should keep the engine thats in it (has 144k miles on it O_O) or if we should upgrade/buy a newer 1. Any insight on what to do? as in which of those 2 choices, and if to switch the engine, to what?
we want a clean, quick, easy swap if possible....
AS ALWAYS, all help is greatly appreciated!

most of those problems can be fixed pretty easy. if you car going to do a swap, i would get the ej255.

is the ej255 na or fi stock? never even heard of it b4, and ya we know most of it will be fixed quick and easy, just coming to the guru's for some fast advice lol :P
