im jarrod btw, im new here

ok so i bought a talon a week or so ago. it bogged out a good bit when i gave it to much gas. still drove just fine, i just couldn't get on it like i wanted to and it took a little getting used to. no check engine lights or anything, the car had sat for 4 years so i figured it was bad gas. the check engine light came on and code read mis fire in cyl no. 2. changed the plugs and the light went away but didnt affect the bogging problem. i noticed that it seemed to bog out alot less(sometimes it ran almost perfect) on a full tank, or after i had put gas in it and almost . i was using fuel injector cleaner most time i filled up, not sure if that's a factor.  check engine light came on again and it said "lean on bank 1" or something like that, basically meaning its not getting the right amount of fuel. he recommended i change the fuel filter, so i did. it made things worse   now i can barley get it to maintain speed, or even getup to speed. it will bog for a second or to, then accel, then bog, and repeats. it will run really good for about 30 seconds after i start it and it goes to *** again. problem seems to be getting worse, any advice? ive asked several ppl and they all said either the fuel injectors, fuel pump, or fuel pressure regulator. my plan is to replace all of them and cross my fingers. any better suggestions?

oh yea, after changing the fuel filter it seems to have problems idling. sometimes after coming to a stop it will die. about half the time i pull in the clutch it will die or try to.

sounds like it just has trash in the fuel tank and when you changed the fuel filter it just ran on threw the system so the next step would be send you injectors off and have them cleaned and flow tested or( you can go to a quick oil change place and have them cleaned)or purchase new ones.
the regulator maybe cheaper to buy first.

i would start with checking your fuel pressure to make sure you have the right pressure @ the regulator.

Also check the throttle body.  There is a small gap or hole around the throttle valve in the throttle body that allows air in to maintain idle speed.  If that area was clogged it would cause your idling problem and could be the reason for the bogging.  So before you go spending money disconnect the intake from the throttle body and clean in and around the throttle valve.  Make sure to dry the area thoroughly before you start the car again!!!!  You dont want any moisture getting into the engine or you might have a whole new set of problems.  good luck.

take some starter fluid and spray in that area if it clears up the idel than PandaSR20 is correct.

some other suggestions

take the injectors out, pull them off the rail, there is a little black screen looking filter, if junk went through the system as suggested in an earlier post those could be clogged up and messing up the "fan" like pattern the injectors are supposed to be creating. I would definatley get a pressure regulator and either install one on the rail inline or at the very least test your flow on your injectors. this will let you know if your getting fuel up to the injectors and inturn if the injectors are working.  I have in the past even pulled an injector out, and proped it up against a cardboard lid just to make sure its spraying gas as it should be. (its messy, but it works)

Most, but not all of those motors have an idle control motor on the back of the intake that has a little screw looking thing that adjust idle based on engine load. make sure that is working correctly and not jammed.

Pull the line loose from the tank and from the intake, and blow it out with air.. sounds dumb but youd be surprised what one little chunk of gewww or spec or rust or whatever can cause in a line.

Last but not least, compressions test your cylinders... again, not conventional, but you would be surprised.

im not sure the electrical set up on that particualar engine, but sensors can cause this kind of problem if they are malfunctioning. What happends is the ECU goes into open-loop, and reads rich so it cuts fuel, then because of the cutting of fuel it will read lean and gas it up, and this process repeats giving you "normal" driving then bogging, then normal(sometimes even peppy) driving, rinse and repeat.

hope this helps,

In addition to the suggestions above, you may want to check the gas tank as this could be the source of the problem, and if so will reoccur.  Had something very similar on an old Mazda RX of mine. like you, it got worse and worse.   Ended up being sediment (i.e. cra*) in the gas tank.   Im no expert but it may be something to do with the fact that your car was sitting for 4 years.   I replaced the gas tank and it fixed the issue for me without any work on the rest of the fuel line, but have someone check it out for you before you go replacing.

I had the same problem with my 96 talon tsi i changed everything out and it still bogged down and come to find out my cold air intake that i had on it was sucking up water cuzing it to bog down when i gave it gas
