I'm planing on getting my first car to build up. and I'm wondering is it worth getting a wrx if i can't afford an sti. Is a regular wrx a good tuner car to build up.

Non STis are actually a great beginner tuner car. WRXs can be made just as fast, and easily faster than STis with the difference you saved.

oh definitely, my buddy was actually thinking about selling his sti and buying a plane jane wrx to build. that way you can build the car you want instead of spending extra on an sti and then putting more money into it to get it where you want it.

Hell yes it is! One of my VERY good friends picked up an 04 WRX for just 3k with cracked heads. Block is fine. So he's doing a stock-ish rebuild on the EJ20. Once that's finished we're going big. He literally just today paid 250 for an EJ257 longblock from an 08 STi... Spun rod bearing. Him and I will rebuild it over the next few years into a 400+hp monster. Only bad part about an STi swap is paying over 3700 for the 6 speed... not to mention the driveshaft and pumpkin..  Soobs are awesome tuners.

Yes, way worth it. Imagine if you were debating weather or not to get an evo or a regular lancer. Sadly, the Subaru put way more love in the regular WRX then Mitsubishi put into the Lancer.

I knew a guy who got a WRX instead of an STi.  In the end after all he did to it, he was able to make  better then an STi and he was able to do it for less then the cost of the STi.
