I am about to buy a VW Jetta. It is the year 1993. And with a 1.6 engine. Can this type of car be turned into a high performance car?? I want my car to be fast enough for racing and to look good aswel by adding a new bodykit, rims, spoiler, interior etc...  Does this type of car have the potential to do this?? Also if anyone has any tips on how to do this could you please tell me.

Thanks in advance to all replys and tips,

With enough money, any car can be turned into a high performance car. =) To give you an idea, I think you car comes stock with either 74 hp or 100 hp (not whp). A Chevy Aveo makes 103 hp and a Civic makes roughly 140hp.

If you're serious on sticking with the Jetta, you could probably rebuild the engine, throw on a turbo kit, and maybe some NOS. It'll probably cost upwards of 5K with installation and you may possibly hit upwards of 220 hp,

If you source together a turbo kit you could probably get it for under 2K, NOS maybe 500, tuning will cost another 500 or so, EMS (engine management) 500. That doesn't include supporting mods: pistons, rods, valves, retainers, fuel injectors, fuel pump, etc.

The Mazda6 comes with a L4 standard engine and goes for a suggested retail price of $28,390.00. It also comes with comparable warranty coverage to other vehicles in its class. Other similar vehicles are the Toyota Prius and the Scion XB.
