hey just asking for your thoughts out there, how long/much do you have to mod a car for it to remain the initial car you bought it. say, if someone bought a civic, tuned it so much that the only stock parts were say the shell, or maybe even no stock parts, would the car remain a civic?

You have to be careful with legality. There is especially true with engine swaps. I am pretty sure it is illegal to put an rb26 or an sr20 into a 240sx although people have done it, and I think gotten it legalized.
Also, it is unlikely you will change the entire frame of the car. Unless you just take the frame of one car and put it inside a body of another car, which I am not sure why you would EVER do. VIN numbers will be able to tell you what it once was.

That's kinda tough. I mean, I call my car a GTO TT, but it's really a 3000gt VR4. I think a Cobra replica is really a Cobra, not a Mustang. And if someone converted a 240sx into a Skyline, I'd probably call it a Skyline. This becomes difficult to determine and argue, however, when not completed correctly.
At least, I think this is where you were going with this post... lol

well if you put a body kit on anything, it won't change the car. But, for example, some people do complete engine/tranny/drivetrain swaps. It'd probably be best to just call them hybrid conversions at that point.
