well I was just wondering about the 2000 impala  its V8, its seems like it has some power, but what about tune ability  is it any good  ? I have been thinking  about  an if not wit that  engine isn't there any other engines that can be dropped under the hood of  that car  its looks like it has a pretty nice size engine bay  for it .  well I am still learning about cars  an stuff I hope to work  on cars in my free time as kinda hobby  just what cars I can make fast an raceable. also an off topic ? can  drop a evo engine in a regaular lancer like the OZ rally edition one  an then drop a all wheel conversion on it an  basicaly turn it in to a Evo pretty much , I was wondering that  cause if so  that would be a great way  to get lower insurance an it would look like a nice sleeper car? well just wondering  an I am still  a noob but every weekend I look at all kinds of cars an work on my car  an learn as muc as possible well let what u guys think of this   . thanx

The impala doesn't get the V8 until 2006 and I'm pretty sure it's the same GenIV small block that they put into the Silverados basically, they're like a smaller LS2 with all kinds of upgraded electronic whatchamacallits (this is not your Dad's smallblock) Aftermarket is kinda lagging though, there are parts for it since GM has been using it for a few years...

From what I understand, The Lancer, and the EVO are *completly* different cars. The similarities end with it's name...with that being said, swapping an evo engine and trans is damn near impossible (unless you have an endless supply of cash)

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the Impala V8 have it's engine in a FWD position?

Yea, Im not sure who misinformed you that the 2000 impala has a v8 but man were they wrong. At best you can get a supercharged v6, some of the impala ss's came with, which I beleive to be similar to the 3.8l supercharged v6 that came in grand prix. Those motors are no joke, granted the cars look like grocery getters but they can be very sleeperish with one of those motors with bolt ons.

Other than that, the car is FWD 3400lb family sedan, and probably doesnt have a supercharged v6. What kind of racing you looking into doing? Do you know how to swap motors?

If your wanting a sleeper and dont know how to swap in the good motor into your impala, than just get a 89-90 Dodge Caravan/plymouth voyager 2.5L turbo. This is one of my dream cars and would love to own one, I drool at the site of one. It
Comes with a 16g stock and can blow doors off most cars with a few bolt ons and looks like a frickin minivan! its an absolute wolf in sheeps clothing. There really geared for low end torque, 400lb ft of torque at the wheels is easily done.

The Lancer is an economy car. They have sporty versions of it, but it will and always will be a slow economy car.

hmmm  so I was wrong on the engine an [censored] but I was just wondering in general. I just like learn as much as i can about different cars  an I figured maybe the impala had some balls butI guess not, an i didn't the evo was totaly different I guess that cancels a plan on making a sleeper car out of the lancer. well thanx for the imput  on this car stuff on those cars I talked about .

So here's what I found on this car: "The base uses a 180-hp 3.4-liter, the LS a 200-hp 3.8, the SS a supercharged 240-hp 3.8." It is a FWD and weighs a lot.

And here's the new info on the 2006 versions: "The LS gets a 210-hp 3.5-liter overhead-valve V6, while the LT comes with a 240-hp 3.9-liter version. The SS becomes the first V8 Impala since 1998 by adopting GM's familiar 5.3-liter engine, rated here at 303 hp."

Here in Chicago Crown Vics are being replaced by a V6 supercharged Impalas. They are decently fast, just don't know why cops decided to go with a FWD car after all these years.

yeah the 06' might be ok if your going to keep it stock, but i see little potential for aftermarket, also since its mounted latitudinaly (sideways, i also spelt that wrong), youll be hard pressed to find something else to put in but youll already have some torque steer as it is

the main thing that set the EVO apart from the Lancer is the crazy AWD tranny, its like a FWD tranny with an drive shaft coming out the back

btw, police are switching to FWD for gas milliege, a Crown Vic pursut vehicle gets about 8-10mpg, its either sitting at idle or hauling *** not much general driving around

I think I read in a few SCC magazines ago that some county in WA is using a WRX for a squad call because the anything with RWD can not handle the snow.  Something like that.

ok, to clear things up, the SS version of the impala came out in 04 with the L67 supercharged 3800. the biggest engine the 2000 impala came with was the N/A 3800, making 200 horses and 220 ft.lbs. and the cops use impala's around here because they are front wheel drive, and that's damn good in the snowy icy conditions. and as for aftermarket, www.3800performance.com will answer that. there's a reason the 3800 is legendary.

If you didn't want to tune the 2000 impala, get a 93-02 (4th generation) camaro z28/pontiac firebird trans am. LT1 engines come with 275 hp and LS1 engines come with 310 hp and there is a huge aftermarket for the camaro/firebird.
