You may be thinking of the Stealth, the stealth is the Dodge version of the 3000gt

Oh yeah, the stealth was what I was thinking off. But I thought the Talon was the Eclipse. So then what's the same as the Avenger?

the Talon was offered alongside the 1g and 2g eclipse, the laser was only available as a 1g
I didn't realize the Avenger was similar to the 3g eclipse...

actually that is not true the VR4 motor is actually a physically larger motor and does not fit the Avengers without a very large amount of fabrication.
The two popular swaps for the Avengers are to go either to a 3.0l from a 3rd gen Eclipse or a 4G63T. If you can find a donor car for the 4cyl swap you can actually transfer the entire drive train and go AWD.
I have done both swaps on cars in the past and have tried to make the TT motor fit. Unfortunately even after changing to a dry sump oil system for clearance on the pan, lowering where the motor sits in the car and shaving the firewall the motor was still a very very hard fit into the car.
If you want to go bit it would actually be easier to put a small block V8 in it, find an old RWD conversion kit for the Daytonas and have at it.

No engine is not the same, the Stratus RT went to a 3.0L which shares a lot of things with the 2.5L and it is the easiest swap into an Avenger.

justin-vr4: I know someone with the 6g72tt in a Stratus, not sure how similar the two engine bays are, though.
What year is the car? Until 2000 the Stratus only shared a power train with the Avenger. The second gen stratus was really a replacement and consolidation of the Avenger and shared more in common with the Eclipse.
In fact the simple way to put it is that the Avenger and 2nd gen eclipse were almost identical with only changes being a hatch instead of trunk and the radiator support on the Avenger extends forward where the eclipse it straight across.
I would highly doubt it is a 1st gen Stratus because the 2.5L barely fits in there, we were never able to fit the larger TT motor into it. Now I have seen people do the 3.0L swap and a custom STS turbo kit.

I can't remember the year, pretty sure it was after 2000. I'll see if I can get the exact model info. He claims to have over 500HP in the thing, but that's pretty hard to believe for a FF daily driver... lol

I have looked into this swap also, do to the fact that i own a 1999 dodge avenger myself. Not only is a 4g63 swap possible but you can even convert it to AWD. Being that the eagle talon esi has the same engine in it as the 4 cyl avengers, it only makes since that a 4g63 would fit fairly easy considering the avenger has a bigger engine bay anyway. The only problem with this swap or any swap is really, that the time and money taken to do the swap in the end it would prob just be easier to buy a talon/eclipse. The charm, to me atleast to a engine swap like this is making something unique. Personaly i would go with the 4g63 swap over the 6g72 just because of the AWD factor. If you want to know more about the AWD 4g63 swap look at the link at the bottom of my post.

Also 4g63's are very responsive to upgrades if you want proof of that look at the link of a power page from a 1g eclipse. You get more power for less cash

for only 600 or so dollars the amount of power they got out of the 4g63 was remarkable
