first let me apologize to the mods here if this threads in the wrong section of the forums this is my first time posting in these forums.

but anyways like the title of this thread says i wanna get myself into the scene.
now which ever car i do decide to get somewhere on down the road, it wont be my first car. ive had my license for over 2 years now im 20 years old and ive driven many cars in the past. the only problem is theyve never been my own, ive always driven family members cars. but i joined the navy a few months ago and get shipped out to basic in january so now im seeing the light to finally get my OWN car, and one i want at that. so until the time comes to after being in the navy for 1 or two years depending on where im stationed at i wanna get a car but i cant decide on which one to get, which is why im posting here for some guidance.

really my passion is and always has been japanese imports. ive never payed much attention to classic muscle cars, ive just always preferred speed and agility over raw power, so i wanna get one of the cars om thinking of.

but the cars ive got my eye on most likely arent gonna be practical for me to have, because which ever car i buy its gonna be my everyday car so im warry of going through with my desoire to get one.
but the cars i have my eye on are either a nissan 300zx TT, r34 skyline or a mark 4 supra although really the r34 is the one im obsessed with, but like i said its gonna have to be may everyday car so im worried about getting that kind of car for everyday use. also ive looked around and i cant even find anywhere to buy an r34 skyline. i havent been able to find any on ebay, nor autotrader nor cars.com. only r33's which im not interested in, so is there anywahere else i could look to find one for sale? they seem to be pretty rare.

also i wanna do my own work on whatever car i do decide on getting and im a complete newbie when it comes to that. im not lacking on people around me to help teach me though, but at the same time im not gonna get such a highly respected car if i dont know *** about it, its just a stupid thing to do to go buy a a car with 4-500 horsepower and not know how to work on it or respect it. so any advice on how to get myself started on learning the mechanics of tuners would be appreciated also.

any help would be appreciated on the matter, and sorry for the length of this post and thanks in advance for anyone that read all this and helped out.

Since you're in the navy the best way you'll be able to find an R34 is if you're stationed in Japan or Australia or some other country that sold them, and even then the only way you'll be able to keep it and drive it daily is if you stay there.  R34's have two major problems which is why they were never sold in the US.  The engines can't pass emission testing and the bodies don't pass collision and safety testing.  There maybe a couple rolling around stateside but since skylines fail DOT and NHTSA expectations many of them are not registered for street use so they're mainly just used as show and demo cars.  If you do ship off to a country that sells skylines and you pick one up depending on what state you live in you might not be able to bring it back because the DMV will not allow you to register it.  If you are lucky you might be able to get one registered for off road use only but that means you can't use it as a daily driver because off road use vehicles are only allowed to have so many miles a year on them.

I think you're best off going for the Supra if you can. The R34 is amazing, but it seems like a lot of work for a daily driver, and i'd be very concerned about it getting stolen if I drove it just about anywhere.
