Ok. I just purchased a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS.  It is still 100% stock.  Looking to add more power but not real sure where I should start.

If your looking to be fast at all, I would sell the car and buy a GSX eclipse. For a fraction of what its going to cost you to make a decent quartermile time with a FWD GS Eclipse, you can blow the doors off a lot of cars with an AWD Turbo Eclipse GSX/Talon tsi AWD/Plymouth laser RS.

I mean unless you got 10-15k laying around the house with nothing better to do with it than go ahead and build up your FWD eclipse, but no matter what its going to pale in comparison to building up a GSX eclipse. Bolt on part for bolt on part, the GSX Eclipse will probably be 3-4 seconds faster than your Eclipse GS, which is about 30-40 car lengths in the quartermile.

knock it off scrotum. stop telling that same thing to everyone. he has a eclipse. it will be cheaper and easier for him to just do a motor swap. and stop telling everyone that itll take 10-15gs just to make the car go fast. just because it cost that much to do your mr2 thats not how much it cost to do all other cars. a 4g63t swap will cost around 4gs. to rebuild it will cost about 2-3gs. for only 6-7gs you can have around 400whp. i have a friend that had a 97 eclipse gs, did the whole swap for only 5gs and dynos at 496whp 427tq.

I had a friend who spent in the neighborhood of 16000 dollars rebuilding his 420a into a boosting motor and he went through 3 transmissions and only laid down 300whp. For the cost of putting in a 4g63t he can just go out and buy a GST Eclipse, and if he wants any hope of getting that power to the ground, he should just get a GSX Eclipse. My brother use to own a GST Eclipse with several bolt ons and he was not very happy with how it performed from a stop. Even he agrees that he shouldve just started off with a GSX Eclipse if he wanted to have any chance of running a decent quartermile time.

did you not read where i told him to ditch the 420a and get a 4g63t. if you read my first post youll see where i told him that the 420a is a bad motor.

also, your friend is a idiot who probably paid a shop to do all the work. if he knows as much as you then no wander he spent so much.

I have the 2.4 4g64 engine in my car.  Is that a good engine to build or not?

what. what year is your car. is it a dohc or a sohc. i need to see some picks to see that motor. so i just checked my resources and ya, you have a 4g64. i just learned something new. the 4g64 is a great tuning platform. it doesnt have the aftermarket as the 4g63 but alot of 4g63 parts can be swapped. if your engine sits like mine then you can place a evo 8 or 9 head on it. the evo intake and exhaust header can also bolt right in. but all this matters on how it sits. if your motors sits the same way as the 1g and 2g then you can swap parts with their 4g63.
