i wanna do alot with my car but it only takes time. I wanna get the whole works with ither engine i get. i just wanna know from other ppl what would be better? i know ither one will be better then then what i got in it now its just the sl engine and it gots about 140-170k miles because of the engine swap from previous owner. the odometer reads 181000 and that was with the old engine. I plan on with the new engine a HKS turbo kit which comes with mostly everything i need. i dont want any nos cause where i live its not really a big city lol. but just wanna know from other users what they think.

the vr4 has more power then the 2jz-gte. also, your car has a stock 6g72, it will be way cheaper to make that a 6g72tt then to do any kind of motor swap.

so swaping the engine to a vr4 would be cheaper and it be easyer i would think. cause right now my motor is a non turbo. i know the tt engine is alittle more then the 2jz engine but in the long run with upgrades and mods it would be cheaper?

Your better off selling the SL and buying a VR4 with the twin turbo motor already in it.

No, you can not simply add two turbo's to your motor and have the same as a 3000gt VR4's. Usually turbo motors are built a lot stronger for boosting from the factory than their NA counter part is.

No, you can not put in a non-stock motor like a 2jzgte, which is mounted longitudinally in your FWD car.

Your best bet if your trying to be fast, is to simply go out, buy a 3000gt VR4 which already comes with an AWD Drivetrain and Turbo motor, and mod that, than add a turbo motor to your FWD 3000gt. Your FWD car will have much more difficulty getting the power to the ground than the AWD 3000gt VR4, and I doubt you have the money for an AWD Drivetrain swap and turbo motor into your 3000gt SL.

well one thing to remember is fwd loses less power than awd so its still fine to build a fwd car, you just have to launch at a lower rpm

Which is precisely why FWD is slower, if you rev too high, you spin your tires and dont get any traction. YOu can redline it off the line in an AWD car and get %100 grip and simply stated, blow the doors off a turbo FWD version of a 3000gt.

Whether you like to admit it or not, high hp AWD car's are always faster than high hp FWD's mod for mod.

i really dont wanna add nothing to my car right now untill i get the motor swaped out atleast any engine work. I dont wanna sell it cause i just dont want to lol, around here, to find a vr4 for sale is hard and with low miles. Thats y i want to swap motors on this one with less miles cause the motor i have now has 180k and feels hella slugish when i press the acceleration. My reverse has more power to it then driveing forward lol.but i also wanted to know how much would it cost to change it from FWD to AWD? cause i looked under my car and i also had my freind look at it and he sayed it looks like they took the AWD drivetrain out. it look like the previous owner made it to a fwd car (i dont know why) cause at first he was like "its AWD right?" and then after we took a look under it he sayed it look like they took it out and made it a FWD. im not sure if they did maybe he dont know what he was talkin about but i looked under thier and it looks like something was thier but it was taken out thiers a big empty space under thier as if the AWD drivetrain was their. i dont know everything about cars but know alittle.I think im gonna put the vr4 motor in it but i under stand where your coming from with the tires spining if i keep it FWD. But was just wonderin what the cost would be if i was to change it AWD? Im thinkin of spendin about 8k on the HKS full turbo kit they have on hksusa.com im sure i can find it cheaper but havent looked around yet, but will when i actually have the motor in thier and running. Also with the motor i found alot of vr4 motors for around $1500-$2000.

No one removed the AWD from your SL.  They came FWD from the factory.  The reason there is room for a drive shaft and rear diff is because the same frame / body is used for the VR4 [AWD]and SL [FWD] models.  It's simply cheaper to build a single style and use different drive trains.  Ever look under a GS-T?  You'll see a small channel where a drive shaft runs in the GSX models.

Scrotum is right in the sense that you'll get nothing but wheelspin.  But I think it'd be interesting to see a 6G72TT in a FWD setup.  It'd be piss poor off the line, but also lighter than a VR4, which would give you a rolling advantage.

Case in point, If you're willing to spend 2k on a VR4 motor and 8k on the turbo kit, you might as well find a VR4 for a few grand more...  It'll be a MUCH better platform to build on...

regaurdless what he does, its going to involve buying a 3000gt VR4, if not one as his main car, than one as a parts car to swap drivetrain components from onto his ***

No Drivetrain swaps are no simple task, they are one of the most difficult tasks to do on a car, you pretty much have to rebuild the car just to make it AWD from FWD.

be A LOT easier to just start off with a 3000gt vr4 and not have to go through all that crap.

What do these cars go for where you guys live. I searched one locally and they want $19,995 for a '95 VR4. It only has 17,500 kms on it though. That sounds really expensive for a 14 year old car. Maybe it's because they didn't start selling Mitsus in Canada until '97. All we had was Eagle before then.
