take it from a dsm tuner, the only thing bad with that car is the 420a. they leak oil like theres no tomorrow. if you can fix the oil problem, then it aint a bad car. i prefer the 4g motors.

Dropping a 4G63T into that RS is going to cost you way too much money and time. You're better off buying a GST or preferably a GSX fromt he get-go.  If you're looking for more info, check out dsmtuners.com. Really good site that I frequently visited back when I had my crappy GS. =)

its actually not as expensive as you think. all you need is the engine, tranny, wiring harnesses, and a new ecu. the 420a and the 4g63 have the same engine mount placements. i have a friend doin one right now for a about 3gs.

Props, mate... you seem to know your DSMs....

However, finding a 4G63T for cheap won't be easy.  Also, have you ever pulled a motor?  Not as easy of a task as you claim.  Plus, if he's going to put a new motor in it, he might as well rebuild it.  Which will cost around 600 to 700 on parts alone.  Depending on what he gets and from where.  Also, the tranny, ECU, wiring on top of all this?

You want my advice, get one with the Mitsu motor.  The Chrysler is junk.  Or you could do what I'm doing and get a Talon...  Cheaper and damn near the same thing as an Eclipse...

You're putting that on a 3G Eclipse?  Your stock ECU isn't programmed for boost.  My roommate, who has a 2000 Eclipse has already looked into this.  You're gonna need a completely new ECU.  Unless you can find a piggyback that'll do a crappy job....

Sorry Ive been gone guys, me and importtuner were talking about making a couple modifications to the forum, and somehow my account got deleted (once again!) in the riff raff.

Anyways, definitly do not buy the RS. If your looking to be quote unquote "fast", avoid the RS Eclipse. Even if you spent several thousand dollars to convert into an Eclipse GST, you still would be nowhere near as fast as an Eclipse GSX.
