Yes you can if money is no object, but if you want a turbo why not just buy an Eclipse GSX? They come stock built for boosting and are built much better to handle the added power, and run 10psi or so stock without adding anything to it.

The eclipse gsx is so old its probably not going to make that much of a difference in insurance costs. If money is a problem buy a 1g gsx, You can buy nice 1g GSX's for under 5grand easily and there built much better for tuning than the eclipse gs's are.

i also was talkin to some of the locals about turboing the gs. they told me that all i would really have to do is sleeve the cylinders and that should handle more boost out of the turbo.. is this the right choice or should ido somethign else..

Your talking several thousand dollar motor rebuild to sleeve the cylinders and do that modification so it can handle boost, and then several thousand more in buying a turbo kit, fuel upgrade, upgrade the clutch and flywheel etc, that you might as well be buying a factory turbo GSX eclipse and start from there.

Also can you put a motor into the car yourself? If not your gonna have to pay a mechanic $1500 to pull it for you and put it back in again. Your almost a 3rd of the way to buying a nice GSX eclipse for that kind of money.

The GSX was designed for racing from the factory which is what you seem to want to do, your car was built for fuel economy.

If money is no object, you can convert your fuel economy car into a car built for racing, but if your looking to save money its much cheaper and easier to just buy the GSX eclipse no matter how hard a find it is.

"The GSX was designed for racing from the factory which is what you seem to want to do, your car was built for fuel economy." i can't believe this guy, if its not the top model it was built for fuel economy??? theres nothing wrong with keeping your gs. as you said its cheaper on insurance and that makes a big difference. buy the 240, or a silvia if your lucky enough to find one, and maybe toss a turbo on your gs and build up the 240. but thats just my 2 cents. build whatever your interested in and don't let anyone steer you away

save you a couple grand adn just purchase you a 4g63t. your not gonna find a gsx for a decent price. either they are totaled beyond repair or someone already owns it and wants you to pay over 10gs for it. or some old person is holdin onto it and they will never sell it.

Yeah it is quite hard to find a 1g gsx! I right now have one for sale/trade. I am goin off to college in June of next year and need a reliabe eclipse to drive there and back on breaks. My gsx has some stuff done to it and I can get pics and the list of mods if you'd like. I love the car but like I said, I need something reliable for long back and forth trips. This car is boosted at 18psi, has somewhat new intercooler, eagle rods, weiseco pistons, stock block, 14b turbo.. 2g cold air intake etc....

Chev 1991 and godfather are the ricers on the forum that will try to convince you that buying a FWD sub 200hp car is the best tuning route to go instead of buying a car with AWD and turbo from the factory.

The eclipse GSX is such an old car that it probably makes no difference in insurance costs, I know that it made no difference insuring my 87 MK1 NA, than it did my 303whp MR2 Turbo.

OMG you guys act like GSX's are some uber rare car, there are 10's of thousands more examples of GSX's than there are MR2 Turbos and I had no problem finding my MR2 Turbo.

And if the GSX doesnt float your boat you can also look into Talon TSI AWD's which is the exact same car with different trim, or the Plymouth Laser RS which is also AWD and turbo'd like the eclipse gsx.

Just go to the regular sites, autotrader.com, dsmtalk.com, dsmtuners.com, dsmsource.com and even modifiedcartrader.com. Its like you guys have been incapable of using the internet to find a car before.

You want to talk rare cars, Celica Alltrac's are rare cars, less than 3000 were sent over, GMC Syclones are rare cars, only 2995 were produced.

If you go to dsmtuners.com out of the top fastest 25 cars, 24 of them are AWD DSM's. If you guys knew anything about racing, which you dont, you would know that its worth the extra effort to find a GSX/Talon TSI AWD/ Plymouth Laser RS and start from there, than convert a fuel economy car GS Eclipse into a race car.

ya im definately a ricer cause i have a stock looking car with different rims, do you even know what ricer means??? if you don't do exterior upgrades its not a ricer. seeing as he's looked into it, i wouldn't keep telling him his insurance cost isn't different, cause it obviously is. if you pay attention while reading, he already said he CAN'T get a gsx. therefore keep the gs and do what you can with it.
