I don't like cavaliers much, not because of the car entirely but it's owner. I hear all the same thing when I talk to one. "Blah blah blah better than a honda or any import, blah blah can smoke an evo blah blah..." But you don't sound like any of them so that's good.
A muffler alone doesn't produce much HP since the stock piping is a bit on the small side and the bends add more to the restriction. I found this Cat-back from Magnaflow. Its stainless steel so it'll insulate against heat and it'll be corrosion resistant.

Its about 600 bucks, but that's kinda on the moderate side money wise and it meets the legal sound limit so you won't sound abnoxious when driving through town. Don't get the dual though. If you own a inline engine; dual exhaust just makes you look dumb...

It's rare to find someone who just wants to work on his car for the sake of it... Well what kind of engine does it have the 2.4 or the 2.2? and is it standard or auto?
Custom exhaust are in my opinion kinda not needed since even if it was custom it still has to follow the factory mounting points, so it follows pretty much the same route as the stock one, a real custom one would just pop out off the fender flares behind the wheel or a completely straight pipe which is not possible... Just go for the aftermarket and avoid the "custom" ones that are hideously overpriced and provide the same if not less performance. Aftermarket companies have spent quite a bit of money (at least the good ones) on having the most HP while not pissing people off ...

that would work... the OBX header, along with 2.5" pipe, HFC, along with the muffler you already have. just stay away from sharp and unnessary bends. Intake would help as well. stick- short throw shifter, auto- shift kit.

I'd focus on suspension first though... Cavaliers are not known for their agility...
Coil-overs from Tokico are around 800 for a set of 4 and are two-way adjustable, but if just some fun is your goal H&R makes some sport springs and you could match them up to some KYB sport shocks. Maybe even a sway bar to make the back spin out a little on a twisty road?

ok yea im definitely getting obx headers....its an auto...i already have the sift kit i just havent put it in yet havent had the time....ok i understand that the custom exhaust is like the same bends and all but i was wonting to go with like a 2.5inch exhaust to get more performance....sine it only has 2 inch....and yea im buying a AEM cold air intake for it here soon also...with around here i live in WV should i get a cold air intake or a short ram???

Nope its auto. The tranny would slip all day long and one tire burnouts at the drive-thru are kinda annoying if you're the driver.
Relax, jus use the car to have fun. How many of your friends actually have a suspension setup? A real one? Even if your friend has a Turbocharged car, your cavalier has some sticky tires and he has regular "grocery-shopping" street ones... Well the answer is ovious; You have the better car.
Hypothetically if your car had...
Eibach or H&R sport springs KYB AGX adjustable shocks Progress rear sway bar Enkei Racing NT03-M 17" rims (17 lbs.) Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec Tires
Your car would have a pretty decent setup and could get close to .88 to .90g's and that's on a budget!^ Combine that with a couple of bolt-ons and you'll have a grin for the rest of the car's life...

I'm guessing you're on the west coast, but if you are on the east coast, I'd say I can fab you up an exhaust if you wanted. I have an equal length header on my Seven that I did a while ago... kinda crappy to compare, though, as I didn't have my TIG at the time, so the MIG work on it isn't as pretty...
