Nissan overated? Skyline? Not good in same sentence you *** noob. Why don't you buy a f*ckin Civic and put NOS decals on it and cry to your daddy that you don't like the replies. *** off!

I sincerely hope that this reply wasn't directed at me. If it was, now is your only chance to apologize for your rude behavior.

Now, let me add my bit of wisdom..

Skylines ARE overrated. Every rookie tuner seems to think they're the holy grail of import cars to tune. Sure, they're great and all, but you could do so much more for less here in the US. I'd much rather have an STi or an Evo before I had a Skyline. I do't doubt the prowess of the car itself, but there's better to be had for significantly cheaper.

Hey there, read my post under the topic skyline help!
I feel really sorry that you guys get ripped over skylines. That can't happen here becuase any body with an import permit can import one them selves. I have an Evo 8 as a company car,we only get the MR spec here, it can't come close to the skyline. Sorry I have to say it I drive both. The evo might give the skyline a bit of a go when it comes to very very tight bends(only due to the size of the skyline), but as soon as the road is straight again the skyline leaves the evo for dead. The other thing is, to tune an evo to be competitive to a mildly tuned skyline will cost you probably as much as the skyline itself. If I look at the cost involved to tune my evo to be competitive to my dads skyline its not worth it, the parts alone will cost almost what my dads stock skyline cost.I realise that this is relevant to to S.A. but surely you guys could import the skyline your selves for half what they are chargeing you guys? Please do not take this as an insult, its just my point of view. Personaly I feel that bang for buck there are few cars that come close to it, apart from the 2JZ supras. The skyline is also very simple to work on if you have mechanical experiance.I just think it's a bit unfair to call the car over rated. It may be over priced in the states, but who's fualt is that? It is certainly not the cars. As for the coment "every rookie tunner" I have been modifing cars since before I could drive thanks primarily to my dad. I am now 28. I am by no means a rookie anymore and I still hold the skyline in high regard. Sorry I can't help being defensive over a car that I am passionate about. I guess it would be like me railing coments about MR2's. I am sure you would also be a bit defensive.

The Evo would undoubtedly give the Skyline a go when it came to the twisties, but I think it'd be more than capable of hanging with it in a straight line. If anything is hindering it, it's gearing. Here in the USDM, we get a 286HP MR version wheras the JDM gets their's "capped" at 276HP. We both know that that HP figure is baloney, but the Skyline doesn't have that much of a horsepower advantage. Therefore, I'd have to see a race like this firsthand to believe too much of it.

Again, no disrespect, but I'd have to see it to believe this. I know how easily Evos take to tuning (as do Skylines, I'm sure), so this might be a toss up. The Skyline WOULD have an advanage in useable HP and torque due to the extra two cylinders.

I understand your predicament due to living in a foreign country and not being able to get your hands on all the best stuff that we get without paying through the nose for it. That's too bad.

Nope. Skylines are not cheap in any manner to import here. To get them federalized is what drives the cost to insane levels. This goes for emissions and crashworthiness. And, to top it off, the only place that did importation and federalization on a consistent level here in the US just went out of business.

I'm right there with you on this one. My comment was more directed at those who are of the "Fast and the Furious" mindset and werent' familiar with the Skyline prior to the movies. I've been turning wrenches with my dad since I could hold one, so I know what you mean. You're fine in my book.

I actualy feel sorry for you guys, Over here we are not plagued by any emission laws, our vspec had that cats ripped out before we even drove it. hehehehe. I can now see why it would cost so much. I just feel thats such a pitty that your laws are preventing you guys from enjoying a truly awesome car.
I appreciate your replies, as always its a pleasure discussing things with you!

yah i know what you mean, out here there are no emmissions and as far as i know nothing aout decibals...
ive never been pulled over to pop my hood, but i also have no body modifications, except for a few guages mounted (poorly) on the dash..
ive seen cars that look like they're burning oil, chuggin along the road...
i'm thinking about installing a straight exhaust, just for that matter.
my friend doesnt even have a muffler, its loud as hell and has never been pulled over for it...

Im sixteen years old and just bought my first car. Its a 2007 350z. I love it. The new 07's have more horse's than the previous model breaking 300hp 306hp to be exact. The car runs smooth and is fast. I just wish I could find a twin turbo set-up for the 07's since they changed the engine none have been made yet. If your looking for a car thats a good daily driver and a car that will run the 350z is the way to go. My Dad has the zo6 its fast but I wouldnt want to drive it every day. The z has alot of parts (other than the turbo) and you obviously have the money to fix it up. Anyway I love my z.

"The z has a lot of parts"

hahaha clearly youve never seen a car before because they all have their fair share of "parts". Look kid if you've got 50k i would go with a barely used bmw m3 with less than 2000k and a factory warranty intact then i would send dinan an order for their supercharger setup and push 400whp+ and you would even have the cash to have bmw install it for you and they would keep your warranty... you would smoke all the 17 year olds out their and pretty much everyone else... not to mention you wouldnt have to deal with some silly looking ricer... you would have a mean luxurious german machine... as someone who has owned an evo 7 an sti supra mkiv and a dinan m3... bmw is the ultimate driving machine... you at least need to test drive the m3 before you decide

Man I have a 87 nissan maxima that I got from my dad it was a good looking little car untill he had a wreck and messed up the front drivers corner on it  so he sold it to me for 200 hundred bucks which was three years ago. Now it has 272,000 miles on it it has no power steering, the suspension is almost rotted out, the motor has no power, and the tranmission slips. Before everything went wrong with it I got the car up to 117 mph now I can't get it over 85 mph unless its downhill I used to be able to race and beat Honda Civics and other Nissan cars  but now I can't beat a geo metro for God's sake I tried actully and sadly lost to a forty year old woman that me and my friends coxed into racing at a red light... my car is still being made fun of for losing to her. So I tryed drifting with it... do you know how hard it is to drift with no power steering I can only do it in the rain or the gravel and sometimes not even then! My poor car gets 16 miles per gallon  most trucks get better than that and I have to hot rod it to get anywhere with it. It sure would be nice to have the kind of money that dude has then I could buy a new car
