Hey all. I'm new to cars and to Imports. So if you have an ideas on where i should start any tips will wonderfully help. All i have is a laptop and a sucky broke down Ford Taruas 1989. It's a 3.0 V6 and can't run for some reason. I'm looking to learn about cars without going to college cause i have no money. I have like 2,000 in the bank and it's my money to eat and finish high school with.

if you want a cheap tuner try to find a honda civic. you need a car that runs. you can find an early 90s civic for around 1g. dont do anything to it until you get out of school. if you dont have a job, get one.

Thank you for the information. I found what was my problem was my fuel injection. So i know alittle about cars but how can i work on them if i have no more money can don't want to screw mine up again? I'm learning on how to do small things like put in a stereo system, oil change/rotate tires, about to learn how to change your brakes. So anyway i know how to become better. And how do i know how to put in proformance parts in like turbo, intake systems, body, etc. once i learn how to fix a car engine?

an intake is easy to install. oilchanges are easy to do. just remember to recycle your oil. do it yourself hint, get some car ramps, somejack stands, and a unit/metric tool set. with those you can do anything with your car. if you have any qs on wear to find, fix, and install parts on your car head to your local parts store like autozone and they should be able to answer your qs.

i've been around cars since i was a baby doing little things like torquin bolts running tools and cranking the engine or pumping the brakes to rebuilding engines and restoration projects. you need to find where you like. carbs, tbi, or multi port. newer vehicles you almost gotta go to school for to learn the computer diagnostics. i've always stuck around 80's-90's for my own vehicles. everything is basic and easy to get to without unpluggin a million things. the hardest thing that i've found to deal with though is rust. it kills everything. which is where i learned to weld. the first thing i do with any car though is buy a chilton/haynes manual. they got complete tear down descriptions, they name the parts and have a list of helpful diagnostic tips. i dont do anything to my car without reading over what i have to do to take something apart so i know what i'm gettin into and dont find myself jumping around takin stuff apart to get to my spark plugs. btw dont try puttin a plug wire on the spark plug while the engine is running. its a big jolt and a bad knot on your head when you hit the hood. a ford taurus wont have much for aftermarket like my dogde dynasty you have to custom build alot. find something cheap and basic. early 90's celicas, any of the eclipses/ talons, hondas are blooming with online special parts. most of them are bolt on and cheap. the cheapest cars to build are civic hatchbacks. you gotta beef the engine up internally for big performance. ecplipses/talons i've learned if you do one big thing you better do it all. had a guy build his talon tsi to run 11 seconds. 150 shot of nitrous, stage 3 turbo, port and polished heads, cams, pistons, rods, everything forged to handle 800 hp + but he didnt change the crankshaft. hit the nitrous and it ended up twisting the crank. it got sold at a salvage auction for less than the wheels were worth and scraped. that taurus would be a good parts getter though. lots of trunk space. that 3.0 though will burn seals if you run it hard and soon you'll be burning oil and fouling plugs. find a nice integra. i've seen those built nicely for starter cars.
