Engine building is relatively easy once you learn the basics and nuances of it come with experience. Dont go tearing apart your engine just yet however. Go to your library and get a couple book on engine building (there are tons of em). While most will probably be towards V8's, alot of the tips and general knowledge and advice will directly transfer over to imports. Another way to learn about building after youve read up on engine theory, to practice repairs, go to your local junkyard, and pick up a cheap as sin engine that runs. Tear it down, and rebuild it. Repeat.

Thanks. Do you know where a good place to start getting into the inport world? Me and my friend went to New York City and looked for a car show but found nothing. We got a tip that Flordia is better place to start. That true or what? Also we are looking to join in some races any good places to get our name known. I do drift and he does drag.

well if your in the NY area, there isnt too much in the way of big shows. We (the northeast) only get like 3 big shows each summer, 2 already happened and the other one i know of got cancelled (NOPI). Draggin theres a couple of 1/8th mi tracks in the upstate NY albany area. And as far as drifting goes, theres almost nothing. thats why i stopped. And if you do find a track thatll let you drift the track fee is outrageous. Im gearing up the MR2 i just got for time attack/autocross/road racing in the SCCA at lime rock park in NW ct. And yea if you got a choice florida is prolly gonna be better. More tracks, better weather, and alotta people in the tampa/miami areas are into imports.

No problem at all. Everyones gotta learn somehow. The basics for adding things like a turbo and Nos is from what quality of parts are in the car and its CR. A good canidate for boost or nos is a lower comperssion engine. As lower CR engines have more room for the boost, your less likely to break something. Example: if you have 2 exact same engines, one with stock pistons, one with lower CR pistons, and you slowly start turning up boost, the one with higher CR will break first. As for what your particular engine can handle while stock, i suggest a forum that caters specifically to your car will have more info as to what it can handle. As far as NOS goes, it varys as to what some engines can take. but as long as your only throwing like a 50 shot or something it should be alright. Dont go dumping a 300 shot lol. Another way for nos is what my old camaro had. Instead of having a button trigger it, you might be able to have it hooked into your throttle. Mine i had spray when i was at 85% throttle, so it would spray automatically when i was pushin it so i wouldnt have to take a hand off the wheel for the arm/fire. Where you located? cuz depending i might be able to give you a hand with some of the wrenching.

Just adding my two cents but you can't drift an eclipse, a car needs to be RWD to drift.

You can drift in a car if it's not RWD. I've done it in my eclipse. It's just easier in a RWD.

They probably won't even allow you to register for competition in an eclipse. It's a great platform, just not for drifting.

They wont for safety reasons. Because you may be able to get them to slide, and even control the slide to some degree, FWD drifting is largely unpredictable, as the dual car runs an FWD against a RWD have 2 completely dif drift lines, and the FWD could slide into the other car, most of the time without any warning. Also they dont allow them because with the back tires locking up with the ebrake so much, it causes the track surface to erode away much faster in non uniform patterns, so when an actual circuit is being run, the wear from drifting a FWD car will cause a rut, which leads to crashes during a circuit, which means higher insurance for the course, and tracks really dont like when costs start to skyrocket
