Hey guys. Ive decided to buy a used 350z and I'm gonna turbo it. I just wanted your opinion if I should go with a twin turbo system or a single turbo system. What are the differences, except for the number of turbos, between the two? What are the pros and cons of a twin turbo system? Any advice would be appreciated.

i think there's less lag in twin turbo set-ups but then you'd have to pay for two turbos instead of one and turbos aren't cheap. i think there's already a couple twin turbo kits for the 350z out there. but i've also heard of people switching their supras from twin turbo to single turbo. =/

Anzh (that confused the hell outta me tryin to type it) is right on the lower lag. But you get more boost outta them (as theres 2). Another benefit to a twin set up is you dont neccassarily have to go with the same size turbos, if you go with a small and a large turbo, the small will spool up quicker, and be backed by the larger turbo in higher rpms. (only run back to back on each other, not reccomended unless your REALLY familiar with what your engine can handle. If you plan on using it for a road car, a single turbo will give a nice power gain, with out killing gas mileage etc. (especially if you pick the right turbo)

rabblerouser12 you are an idiot 2 turbos does not mean more boost. learn about what you are talking about then come back and share some theories. you will not need two turbos one will do the job just fine. and you would have to pay for two turbos and all the accociated parts to put those on

tw1n, be polite. Insulting someone is not going to gain respect from anyone.
Kuma, all depends on what you want it for. Light street? Drag? Track?
With twin (depending on the turbo specs, of course) you are going to have a faster spool time, but the trade-in will be lower high-rpm power than a similar single turbo.
The single turbo will be cheaper, but it will be more of a challenge to get equal length primaries on both cylinder banks. You would have higher boost in the top rpm range, but you'll be dealing with some lag.
That may not be the case in every situation, but in all reality, there are many missing variables.

Check the APS turbo kit. Very highly regarded and my friend has a TT kit on his 2003 G35. ~420whp on stock internals and a conservative tune. They offer both twin and single. http://www.airpowersystems.com/products_usa.html Basically twin if you want faster spool up, single if you want all out power.

People with twin turbo supra swictch to single for the main reason that 1 big turbo can give out the same power output as 2 turbos would. The supra is a inline 6. There for all 6 exhaust outlets will but linked to 1 big turbo. If they keep it twin turbo it will be 3 exhaust outlet per turbo. Having 6 in one turbo can alow it to spool just as fast as if it had 1 small turbo and 1 big turbo.
Now for the 350z its another story. Its a V6, there for 3 exhaust outlets per side, you could single turbo it but ud have one side header flowing out with no turbo in the way and on the other side ud have a turbo. Im guessing people twin turbo 350z mainly for balance, and less complicated. If youd want a strong single turbo you`d have to have the turbo a bit further down the exhaust so both the exhaust of each side powers the large turbo since just 3 outlets probebly wont be enough. Just like previously said small turbo on one side, and bigger turbo on other side. Small turbo builds a bit of boost as it doesnt lag as much while the larger turbo will take a bit longer to spool up since it is a big turbo powered by only 3 exhaust outlets.

Lol, just quick sketches if anyone got lost in what i was trying to say. ![]()
And also id add that im 99.99% sure that twin turbos produce the same ammount of boost as 1 turbo

Well with boost I think that's more engine dependent than actual turbo dependent. I mean depending on the turbo or turbos you can pump out the same amount of boost, it's just that the single will make more power with the tradeoff of turbo lag.

Oh and the engine will handle only so many psi so yeah same amount of boost.

The debate of twin vs single turbo is different from car to car and from person to person. It also depends on what the car will be used for. In my opinion though it all depends on how the rest of the car is set up, and how well the ECU is tuned.

i always thought that you single a 4cyl, and you double or single 6cyl

It depends on the application, people. There is no right answer.
Yes, it makes more sense to apply twins to a V-configuration and a single to an inline, but there are exceptions to every rule.
Supras come from the factory with twins on an inline, and APS makes a single kit for the V6 in the 350Z, so it can go either way...just depends on your wallet and how adventrous you are.
Here's a little breakdown that might help (although in no way can I compete with those incredible drawings above, lol)
Big single = lots o'lag and crazy power up high (GT35+) Smaller single = moderate lag and good power up high (T67+) Parralel twins = similar to small single (CT12-26+) Sequential twins = no lag (early boost)and moderate power up high, less linear power than single(CT12-26+)
Hope that helps.
