Ok sir, and others, im going to be going to look at a 91 MR2 Turbo with a 5 speed and 135k on it. The guy just wants my 86.5 surpa Mk3 for it in a straight trade (he jumped at the JDM swap).  I know that they are amazing cars, and handle like a supercar stock, I know the basicas about the cars.  My question is what are some common problems I should look for mechanically? The body is mint on it, paints a lil faded but I plan on getting it painted anyways.  The supras gremlins have been aggravating me, and am lookin for new car anyways. Mainly any problems that might not rear their heads on a test drive and look over that i should check?

The only common problems with the MR2 Turbo is cracked ashtrays and broken ebrakes. Some have leaky exhaust manifolds too. Everything else depends on how well the car was taken care of, so check the cars oil and maybe bring a compression tester with you. Make sure you compression test, do it before the car has been ran so you dont gum up your spark plug threads.

Other than that, they are mechanically sound cars.

Was it all my arguing that got you sold on buying a MR2 Turbo?

Lol sort of.  While i didnt know they could out brake out skidpad ferrari's, Ive liked the cars for ages now.  I've mainly just been looking for one for a decent price in my area.  This one kinda just fell into my lap.  I met the dude at a local car meet, he had a for sale sign in his window, so i had to go ask.  He said he was up for a trade, so i showed him my supra, he wasnt all that interested until i mentioned the JDM swap i did only had 40k on the new motor.  So the trade was a go, and im going to test drive the MR an he my supra later this week.  As the supras gremlins are now preventing me from sleeping, chances are im going to go thru with it as long as it runs/shifts well. As its not going to be a daily driver, some minor problems (leaking exhaust etc etc) wont be a big deal.  That and ive been straying away from RWD drifters as im getting older (and theres only 1 track that will let you drift within 150 miles of me), and looking into autcross and road racing (not street racing, road racing as in SCCA or the such), and figured i just cant beat an MR2 in the bang for the buck category.
