Okay so I'm new to the site, and new to this wonderful car of mine. I was planning on tuning it, but I started reading and it seems since its FWD it won't be exactly up to par. I was hoping to get some input due to my lack of knowledge in this field.
I might eventually get the AWD version chassis and get a 4g63T and get all performance upgrades, with a full revamp of the car all the way down to the last nut and bolt.
This will be my daily driver, so I need it to stay street legal, but I still want to be able to race my friends, and deal out some good old fashioned whoop ***.
Thanks for the help. -GETWICKED91

ive also got an 03 eclipse gs. the 4g64 and the 4g63 are the same block just different bore. the tranny and drive train could be bolted to the 4g64. the 4g64 is a stronger motor than the 4g63. the srt 4 has a 4g64 in it. im tryin to find a totald evo in my area so i can get the awd suspension and drive train and adapt it to my car. they dont make an awd version of the 3rd gen. im plannin on payin atleast 6gs on all the parts, thats with me doin the labor myself. good luck.

But I thought the 4g63T would be lighter due to and aluminum block, or am I incorrect? Also, thanks for the idea of using an Evo AWD drivetrain, but would that work with the sportronic transmission already in my car, or would I have to tweak everything to work?

Oh, by the way, I'm going to try to push every ounce of power I can for AutoX, drag, and maybe drift, so how should I build my engine up, and how would I go about adding a twin turbo setup? Whats your preference for T/C vs. S/C?

You can't twin turbo a 4 cylinder car due to it only having 1 exhaust manifold. S/C's have more low end power and T/C have more top end power. S/C's run off of a pulley so as soon as you hit the gas pedal you are boosting. T/C's run off of exhaust pressure, and have to spool up before making full boost. In AutoX you are constantly in the top of the power band (consistently in 2nd gear near redline). The same applies to drifting somewhat, but in higher gears. In a drag car I would prefer a car with lots of top end power mainly because there would be a lesser chance of spinning the wheels when launching, and because top end power can somewhat make up for a poor 60ft time. So basically my advice is go the turbo route should you be willing to dump a bunch of money into the car.

Couldn't I get a custom manifold splitting the headers 2x2? Also, there's no possibility of running them inline on the exhaust?

If you were to do that you would lose power. You would be using the same amount of exhaust pressure to spool up 2 turbines rather than 1. Either way I seriously doubt a custom set up like that would even fit in that engine bay.

the 4g63 and the 4g64 are the same block hence the 4g. the only dif is the bore and stroke. the 4g64 actually has better low end power cause its sohc. the 4g63 is a dohc, better high end power. a turbod 4g64 would blend the low end stock power with high end turbo thrust to make an excellent acceleration machine. a turbod 4g63 is still slow from the start, but once it reaches 3000rpms it flys. now i was thinkin of convertin my sohc into a dohc. i want to put the mivec cams in my car, they are perfect for runnin with the turbo.
DONT TWIN TURBO A 4CYL............PERIOD................. the turbo causes more pressure into your system. you will drop every rod in that engine the first time you slam on the gas.

for the awd youll have to do some moddin. the evo tranny will bolt straight on, but it only comes in manual. the only the 4b11 tranny comes in a sporttronic tranny. i dont know if the 4b tranny will fit the 4g block.

Do you think that I might be able to adapt a AWD sportronic transmission, and drivetrain from a montero or outlander? I'm sure I'd have to get different suspension, but is it at least worth a shot to take a ride to the local junkyards to educate myself?

My guess would be no. Either way a standard tranny is the better way to go in the end. 100% in control of the car, and better gas mileage.
