so i was bored 2nite at work and started 2 read GQ. i was readin the car section about cars with high hp and good mpg. in that section they ragged on all the new muslecars and said that they died out in the 70s and will never come back. i was readin further along  and they said that they dont understand why the charger remake came with 4 doors and not 2. after i read this i realized that its not a car guy writin this section. if he were a car guy he would have known that the first charger was a 4 door and the 2 door didnt come out until 2 years later. i think its awesome seein the musclecars come back. raw power is beautiful, i dont care who you are. but for now im gonna stick with mpg over hp.

The latest energy crisis will kill off the retro musclecars of today, just like they did back in the 70's.

Turbo 4cylinders will be about the only fast car that gets reasonable fuel mileage in tomorrow's world, and even then might be threatened by the increase in fuel economy standards mandated by congress in 2020. But the v8 muscle car will be DOA when gas gets up to $6+ a gallon, which it seems to be headed that way.

o my god. $6 a gallon, you gotta be shittin me. thats outrageous. a srt charger hemi v8 gets 20hmpg and 14cmpg, which at 425hp at 420tq. the sti and lancer get 22 hmpg and 18cmpg at 300hp. and when you do the work to get 400+hp your gettin the same milage, yet a 400hp sti would smoke a charger srt8. im not stupid.

you have to be like the most close minded person. Stop following people and do your own things. didnt you learn anything from the fast and the furious lineups. why do u think the tuners have to be turbo or supercharged to keep up with a stock muscle car. Now you tune ur *** out. wooptie doo! Now a camaro pulls up next to you supercharged. u r going to need NOS just to keep up.but if he has nos too u have no chance. use reality and not little tuner toys with small engines that can only produce half the power when they r supercharged.

Wooow really?  Fast and Furious is the base for your argument?  And you're telling Godfather not to follow other people?

First of all, that is a movie, and even in real life a street legal Supra will need NOS to go up against a 900hp track rated Charger.  Next, please figure out what you are talking about before you go on an online forum and start acting like you're some kind of genius.  You are the one who is close minded because you cant even consider an import beating a muscle car, but you should because it happens every day. You shouldn't talk about how imports have to be turbo "just to keep up with a stock muscle car" when many of the imports these days have turbos from the factory.  And a stock Sti will will destroy a stock Mustang.  Don't believe me?  Then watch this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlqjChw9H3A but you probably wont watch it because you are ignorant to everything that says muscle cars aren't perfect.  Also, for your anti-turbo rant you can mull this over: Ford made two very different engines for it's Fox Body Mustang, the 5.0 V8 and the 2.3 Turbo I4.  Sure the V8 will have better throttle response from a dead start, but the Turbo 2.3 will out run the V8 all day long due almost solely to weight ratio (which you obviously don't understand).  Both engines put out about the same amount of hp, but the 2.3 is lighter and once the turbo spools up (which you can do while staging in most legal drag races) it will make the V8 look like the heavy gas guzzler that it is.  Bottom line is that muscle cars need more power just to get off the line because they are so heavy.

Don't get me wrong,  like muscle cars and they have a lot of torque and are more likely to run a sub-ten second mile than most imports (but not all imports).  I like the classic look and how they sound.  What I don't like about muscle cars are people like you who just talk trash about imports because of they're own ego that was once probably irreparably damaged by an Sti or 350z or Evo or GTR or G35 or any of the other Japan bred muscle car killers.

I understand you may not have known all of this before now because they did not go over it in any of the Fast and Furious movies, but on the bright you can take this knowledge and go troll forums somewhere else.

Two year old thread aside,

If SEMA has been any indication of how popular muscle cars are then it's painfully obvious that muscle is back. The new Camaro is drop dead gorgeous straight out of the factory. The Challenger is a big of a disappointment, especially after having the opportunity to sit inside of one. Very un-ergonomic and bland. The Mustang took a step in the right direction with it's latest incarnation but aesthetically it looks too similar to it's predecessor.

I'm seriously tempted to make the new Camaro my next daily. It's gorgeous, quick, cheap, and easily upgradeable.
