ok i have a gmc jimmy and i just graduated, now i got to work up in the city at the hospital im an intern there until i get done with 8 more long years of school, so i was just wondering what i could get for around 5-10 grand i was thinking about a cavalier or maybe a cobalt it depends on how much my uncles let me spend on it. they are both rich and were gunna buy me it after i sell my car blue book is like 4000 on it. i was thinking about a 03 cavalier sport. my brother has a 99 eclipse special edition that is awesome he has maybe 500 dollars worth of engine work and it does 140-150 easy. i also have a 4000$ system in my truck i got to get a compact box i currently have a spl box with 2 kicker cvxs 2 2000 watt amps which i should only need one of when i put them into a smaller box and a kenwood 990 and the amps are kickers also. i was just wondering ig i get like a 2003 cavalier how expensive it would be to get a big horsepower jump in it, also i really like the look of my bros eclipse so i would kinda want something like that but i dont wanna copy off of him. Also one weird thing, his cars a hatch back and he has 2 l7s in his and you can hear him from a mile away but barely nothing inside compared to mine my interior square footage is easily double his, and mine hurts his ears and when im riding with him i can hardly hear it will my subs be like this if i put em in a smaller box and a smaller car?

well it sounds like you care more about a nice sound system, etc than having a fast car.  however if you want a fast car then forget about a cavalier or an eclipse other than a turbo gsx or gst.  cavaliers are economy cars without a hint of sportiness in them.  for 5-10 grand you could pick up an eclipse gsx, toyota mr2 turbo, and maybe a 1st gen rx7 if you look hard enough.  if you wanna go fast then forget about putting in a sound system because subs add a lot of weight, and added weight will slow you down considerably.

A second gen rx-7 is well within that price range, at least here in Canada they are.

a cavalier is not the car yo want and personally i'm no fan of the cobalt.  if you want a fast car get something that is turbo'd stock and mod that to get the extra horses.  That way you can put a better turco on it without spending loads of money rebuilding your engine so that i can handle a turbo.

if your lookin to get into the scene, stay away from domestics. the only domestic that we suggest is the srt4. if you cant find a good turboed car for cheap, look into picking up a 3rd gen eclipse gs. they are the best base model natuned tuner cars. i smoke rsx's daily.

One of those 2004 Pontiac GTO's. A good one with the 6.0 6spd runs for about 17-20 grand, and you get RWD a moderately good suspension and the same acceleration as a BMW M5.

5-10 grands???
1. Honda S2K - scratched out (too little room for ur sound system)
2. Toyota MR2 - scratched out (same reason as above)
3. BMW E36 M3
4. Lexus SC-Series (known as Toyota Soarer in other countries)
5. Lexus IS-series (1st Gen - a.k.a Toyota Altezza)
That's all I can think of .... for now.

Well If you're looking for something like your brother's Eclipse, but not wanting to copy him, I think I might have a remedy for you.

1995 to 1998 Eagle Talon TSi AWD.  Eagle Talons are basically Mitsubishi Eclipses with a Chrysler badge and body.  Mitsubishi and Chrysler formed a joint company in the 90s called Diamond Star Motors [DSM].  The Talon was one of the results from this merge.  The ESi models came with the 420A from Chrysler and are, for the most part, useless.  But the TSi models came with the 4G63T from Mitsubishi.  The same 2L DOHC IC Turbo's in the mid to late 90s Eclipse GST and GSX.

Don't add subs... Just dead weight.  You want a bumpin system, buy an Escalade...

I have a friend with a brand new 07 eclipse. he paid 23k for it. he raced another one of my friens with an 02 svt ford focus that cost 8k. the svt focus stomped the eclipse from a roll and a dead stop. not to mention the fact that his focus has a large magnet sub and mdf box weighing over 120 lbs with amps. the eclipse didn't have any dead weight in it besides the p.o.s. stock fosgate system. As far as price and performance goes... the svt is something definitely worth checking out. And an if you want something with a stock turbo and don't wanna look like a poser go with a volkswagen GTI or MazdaSPEED protege. In my opinion there are way too many eclipse's running the streets.

we are talkin about 3rd gen eclipses. they are lighter and way cheaper. the reason why no one bues the svt focus is cause there is a very little aftermarket for them.
