Yea, get a Honda if he wants to be slow until he dumps $20,000 into motor and transmission rebuilds, replaces most every part on the car, and essentially reengineer it from an economy car into a race car.
Seriously though, the Berretta is a FWD econobox that is naturally aspirated from the factory. NA FWD is about the worst racing setup you can have, and a little ecu tuning is not going to do much for you. Yes, I have seen a berretta with my own eyes make 320lb ft of torque on a dyno with nitrous added to it, but the owner still had to have a motor rebuild and lots of supporting mods to make that kind of power. My stock motor can make 320lbft of torque on an allstock longblock/ecu/fuel system with just a few bolt ons and no rebuild, and its nothing special.
its because my car, was actually designed for racing from the factory, and his had to be reengineered to be made fast through replacing and upgrading lots of parts.
If you wish to be fast for cheap, your first mod should be a for sale sign. If not, then rebuild the motor and start adding bolt ons.

phantom honda's arent fast. I own one and i will stand for their reliability and handling with the right parts, but as for speed i say honda's suck. I know how to drive mine though which makes the difference at autoX's
