is it worth the money to get one and tune? what are the advantages and disadvantages?

There's not much aftermarket support for matrix's. They're overglorified Corollas, much like Si's are overglorified Civics(comparatively to the XRS model). You'd be better off choosing something with more aftermarket support, as you'll find yourself custom fabricating most of your modifications if you don't(and that gets really expensive really fast).
