Like the title states I'm looking to purchase my first car. I've got about 10K to spend. I'm looking for a car that I could put some work into a few years down the road. Right now I'm looking at Tiburons. I've also come across a few 350Zs in my price range. I'm new to the tuning world, so I don't know the opinions about these cars. How well do the cars perform as both learning and tuning cars? Another question I have is should I just invest into a Civic? From what I've read they are goos starter cars, but expense to make fast later on. What are your opinions? Thanks for your help guys!
Edit: Just wanted to say that I did read the sticky, but had hard time findings any the the recommended cars in my price range.

You can find an eclipse gsx or gst for around 10k easily. Same with an 300zx tt and a 3k vr4. Or atleast i have seen plenty that i know 100% arnt the scams you see all the time.

Hmm actually most of the cars on that list you can find around 10k. Just be careful with what you buy and make sure its worth the cost (Mileage, Maintenance, Wear etc etc).
And as for a starter car if its going to be just to learn to drive.. And you arnt looking to produce any massive numbers. id go with.
3000gt Base (SL just has extra added weight of pointless crap) Also these cars have a HUGE community behind them. Also most the people with the community are always more than willing to help you out with anything from advice to doing the actual work... For about 2500 you can do a twin turbo engine swap. Or for about 1k you can be pushing around 300hp without nitrous... rsx-s Tiburon v6 eclipse

Ooops hit enter. Theres also plenty more to add to that list as well. Im sure others will post what their opinion is.. Work 16 hour days and its time to hit the bed. Will be back on later and post up the rest of what i was gonna say.

avoid the tiburons. they look clean, but hyundai makes unreliable cars. go with something easy to drive for your first car, so in that case a civic would be great. I learned twisty road driving in a base model rsx, and I learned amazing car control since it would start sliding if from nothing. FWD is good to learn in because you will learn to control your car if you lose grip, but you wont start spinning out when this happens. AWD is good because it handles like FWD but grips twice as good.
If its your first car you probably dont want something thats easy to make power of because you want experience handling some power before you handle big power. Take your 10K and buy a civic, rsx, etc. and invest in some coilovers, and a few bolt ons and learn from there. Just my thoughts though. Your money, your project, your decisions.

i just got my car first for $3800. its a 97 eclipse gsx love it definitly recommend it

Well I've decided to look into a GSX/3000GT. Only problem is my parents believe that any car over 70K miles will breakdown. The only GSX/3000GT I can find in my area are 80-110K. How much mileage is too much? Also are Eclipse GSX/GST listed as both GS?

theyre listed as either gsx or gst. theyre both badged gs but on any auto sales website they should be specific about which model it is. 80K isnt bad as long as it has been maintained properly. worst comes to worse get one with 120K+ for dirt cheap and swap the engine and tranny brand new then youll have nothing to worry about. if you wanna 3000gt talk to Xx3kgtxX. he'll tell you everything you need to know about that beast.

No the GS is the naturally aspirated version. Avoid it
GST= Turbocharged FWD GSX (Reccomend it over the 3000gt base by far.. not the vr4 but thats outta your pricerange. Hard to work on and expensive to work on if you pay someone else to do it).
And really its just how the car was taken care of. If it was regularly maintained etc and not abused it will last you a long time. My truck has 265k miles on it. My 3000gt has 103k. Friends with gsx's all are pushing 140k.
Go with the GSX though. The 3000gt Base/SL are nice learning cars but if you can get your hands on a gsx go with it. AWD so you dont have to worry near as much about screwing yourself over in rain etc. Also its stock turbocharged so its a car you can keep and modify without dropping tons of money into it.
I would recommend the 3000gt vr4 but- Requires regular maint most people abuse to do. Very fickle. If something does break then your looking at massive $$ to get it fixed. For example- I can replace my starter on mine in 15 minutes. If you take it to a shop your looking at approx $300 labor charge to do it. So about $380 from a shop.. or if your a decent mechanic you can do it yourself for $70 and in the time you get for your lunch break at work.

gsx is a lot better vs gst. something about the gst's tranny doesnt grip off the line. you can get either for under 4 grand also which is awesome.
