Graphic layout design jobs + tuner design

I've come to the realization that I'm in a 1/4 life crises if there is such a thing. Gone to college for Visual Arts then Graphic Design. I have the diploma and a decent portfolio. Been doing the graphic design thing on an off for a year now and realized I like it(when I can get work in it) but as my family and friends know car's (import primarily)have always been my obsession.

I guess what I'm looking/asking is a few things.

1. Are there auto shops that focus on car or race car or graphic layouts? (Yeah I'm probably not the only North American looking for that one, and its not a project that probably comes by that often)

2. I'm probably dreaming on this one but for some tuner projects, is there a "creative director"?(Chip Foose) Where would be the best spot to start looking? And is there a realistic chance of getting work in that field?

Better that I tried then wish what could of been.

I was just thinking the same thing! I googled "race car graphic design" and it came to your post on here.

Anyway, I'm receiving my BFA in Graphic Design at the end of this current semester, and frankly: your description equates to: my DREAM JOB. Combine two of the most kick-ass scenes ever, right? Fast Cars and Slick Art... it's perfect.

Is there anywhere where that kind of work could exist?? Maybe.. If the price was right for a custom designed car graphic, I bet it would be super popular with people. Customers would really get to personalize their vehicles. It could be a graphic package for the outside, and there could be a team of upholsterers that could assemble what is designed for the interior. That'd be sick man.

I would do just about anything to put something like that together. Ever since I was a kid I've wanted to do something that wild. It would have to be in a pretty rich area though, but if the right people are found, it could totally make it.

Like you said: finding or starting something like that could be a crazy dream, but I do know that a lot of WRX's and rally team cars have really intense vinyl jobs, so maybe a company that specialized in detailing? Not sure brother, but let me know what you find out.

Your best places to look would probably be with a body kit maker or try to land a job actually coming up with the concept sketchs for an auto maker.
