follow up: visited the state Ref this morning for my "illegal" modifications ticket, the car passed the smog check no problems (I returned back to stock) but they FAILED me on the visual because they said my turbo timer was connected to the o2 sensor (completely false) and my boost gauge was t-ed off of the fuel pressure regulator (one tiny tube to move).  now I have to go back. I made the changes in less than 2 minutes time literally, but they made me re-schedule.  god I hate this state and our crazy asss laws.  once again, no big deal, but just wasted time and money from a stupid little annoyance. i guess this is my Karma coming back from last weekend.

How does the US manage to be such a huge polluter when it has such idiotic emissions rules??

I don't get it..

UPDATE:

i finally got this crap straightened out, the car passed again no problems and this time I passed the visual.  All I did was hid the turbo timer behind the dash and disconnect the boost gauge in order to connect the fuel pressure regulator without any interuptions.  i cant believe they failed me with a stock car the first time.

to anyone facing the state ref, make sure you double check every little detail, I had to remove the turbo timer and boost gauge even though it passed smog with flying colors.

I wish I could afford having 2 cars so I could have kept my MR2 and modded the *** out of it, but oh well, maybe some time down the road.

but they are crazy over there, they look up every single number and get every little detail.  if the numbers dont match up you're screwed.  they also researched the model of the turbo timer online and found that it has an "option" to hook up to an o2 sensor and failed me based on that alone.  they have diagrams and everything so youd be surprised how much they catch. they all the info from the VIN and make sure it all matches, so honda guys are done for.  I've known people that failed with a 3rd gen 3sgte MR2 though.

:
Or rather a conspiracy against people who modify fuel efficient, low poluting cars. Its ironic that the cops let the muscle car guys throw on there edelbrock intake, high lift cams and open exhausts, and cops dont turn an eye, but to the guy daily driving his very fuel efficient turbo 4cylinder in comparison to the gas guzzling v8 tuning guy or SUV driver, the least harsh on the environment compared to the latter 2, the turbo 4cylinder tuner is getting cited for emissions bs.

It really is complete horseshit if you think about it.

couldnt agree with you more.  that post basically sums up the entire thing very nicely.

im glad i live in Kentucky, it may be a cranked out drugie state, but i love the little laws that go with it
they got rid of our yearly inspections like 20 years ago, the only mod law is as long as you have a cat on it, i looked it up, aside from tire size(40"), ride hieght (i think 5 feet), and window tint

as told to me by my neighbor (who owns a smog only station and can write me off since he is a referee also)
And for him runnig what use ot be the number 8 smog station in california.
Smog id the biggest scam in californi, and he has told scramento that also!!!
The reason we have the wheel dynos in the shops, that they have ot pay for (and soon cameras on the computers lookign at the motors to take pictures). well the gentmal in the capitol who pushed the wheel dynos in the sahops. his brother in laws runs the company that sells those to all the shops@! what a scam.

and my smog tech has put harley davison bikes on the machins, and they polutte almos 20,000 times the emissions and a chevy suv. go figure!
but one gentlman has tuned up old v8 with no cats and all the power, and has had them run cleaner than new cars!

But its all crap. i have seen non carb parts put out better emissions than the stock parts. but since its not carb legal, no good. he told the judge he thought it was ironic, he got a ticket for making the air cleaner and told the judge that his car ran cleaner with the part. and showed th epaper work also!!

carb is a pian, i mean its what 20 - 30000 dollars ot get the part legal, if not a total expensive part then it wont be!!
Luckily most the cars i drive arnt as poular, so i ditn get messed with as much!
lucklily the last tiem they pulled me over was for exaust, tried to give me th e85 dollar ticket, i played noice, told him i just replaced the motor and broke the factory downpipe, i told him ill show him the welds, he dropped it ot a fix it. still time gone!1

but yes emmision are gettign out fo control. I mean the same guy i knew smogged a brand new chevy suv a few years back. when it was due, no cats straight pipe, supercharged, and it ran cleaner than off the lot!!! sheesh.
And their is still talk amout forcing this cali and i think new your style all over the country.

unlike my bro in kansis city, they ask if you have a cat and see if the belts and light work, and you leave!!

okay long post sorry!

but5 i side with you!! the cops pic and choose, and kids these days who have the cops single us out cause of thinkign they are bad a$$ makes it hard of rhte rest!!

oh well.1 sorry long post!!
