I've been looking into new engines for my 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier for some time now, and recentley decided I would make a tuner project out of the car. I was wondering what the best kind of tunable engine would be for such a car.

Linky no worky, unless you join your forum.

Look man, the cavalier is not a car I would choose for a tuning platform and here are my reasons why

#1 its FWD - FWD is the worst drivetrain setup you can possibly choose for racing. If your gonna make a lot of power, you have to put on the widest, stickiest set of front tires money can buy to get any power to the ground, whereas my car on street tires of even drag radials would probably pwn you off the launch while staying street legal.

#2 its Naturally aspirated 4cylinder. One of the slowest motors that can power a car is the naturally aspirated 4cylinder. The only 4cylinders are easily made fast already come with forced induction from the factory. Since yours didnt come with forced induction from the factory, you have to rebuild your motor so it can handle forced induction and add your own kit, nothing too mechanically feasible for someone who is new to tuning cars.

#3 its a cavalier for christ sakes. WHatever money you sink into the car, you will see next to none of it back on resale value since its better known as a point a to b economy car than a great race car.

^^ Amen.

I forgot you have to join for that section of the forum.

It's a WS6 in a Z34 Lumina.  Converted to RWD, but I was trying to point out--unless you have sentimental reasons, find something else to work on.  If you have massive quantities of time and money, then by all means, do something like that--rebody some RWD chassis.  Otherwise, find a 240SX or something of the nature.  Maybe even an Integra if you want to stay FWD.
