I'm 17, and I got [censored] to deal with that people twice my age shouldn't have to deal with. My escape is driving, and doing it fast. I've got a stock 2001 Acura 3.2 TL at my slight disposal, within the next 1-2 years to be at my complete disposal. I absolutely love driving, and sure, sexy cars are great, but I prefer power, speed, and handling to looks, if a car has both, great. I want to tune the Acura, and I want to be someone who is intelligible and adept when it comes to tuning and cars in general. I don't know anyone who knows enough to teach me, so if the is anyone, especially multiple people, on this forum willing to teach a 17 year old about something he wants to have an intelligent passion for (or if you simply want more background/info about me) , e-mail me at Akki.Kun@gmail.com (yes that is a period between Akki and Kun), private message me, or simply reply to this post. Thanks to anyone who responds!

Well I am not gonna diss the ride. I saw one of these last night, its very high class car, and looked good with some rims and a stereo system in the back up at a meet last night. I thought it made a good show car.

As for racing, there are some things you can do, it shares the engine with the NSX (I think) so there should be some aftermarket parts for it. bigger rims would help it corner better.

But if your wanting to get into racing, I would not suggest an Acura 3.2TL. The car weighs what? 3500lbs or so? I am not sure, but it does look to be pretty heavy. Another thing, its FWD. A heavy car and FWD for a drivetrain does not make a great racing platform.

I have always been one to preach, low weight, high hp or torque. Your cars hp/weight ratio and immense size kinda makes it not a great racing vehicle. I wouldnt want to tell you to rip out that heavy leather interior out of what was once a $40000 car, but if your looking to race, it would definitly help.

Really, if your looking for racing, get a car just built for that from the factory, racing. Your car is a sporty luxury sedan, but sure is not a race car, or a sports car for that matter. Look for something that weighs several hundred pounds less, has a turbo engine backing it up, and something that isnt front wheel drive. FWD doesnt automatically make you slower, as there are some FWD civic's that can smoke me around a track, but Youll have a much better time cornering with MR,AWD, or FR than you would with FWD, as the more power you add to your FWD car, the worse the torqueundersteer becomes. This is also increased by the immense weight of your vehicle.

I would say look for cars built to be, or have been raced.
Eclipse GSX, Scooby WRX, Evo 8, 240sx, RX7, MKIV Supra are a couple examples of cars that have and been raced before, and with the sale of your Acura 3.2TL you could afford any one of those "sports" cars and have a much easier time and be a lot faster, tuning one of those, than an Acura 3.2TL. Turbocharged from the factory really helps a ton, as I have less than a $1000 in motor mods in my $2850 turbo car, and have seen a %40 increase in hp. Just from opening up the exhaust&dpipe ($600), adding an intake ($120) and increasing the boost ($50) My car has gone from about 160whp to probably around 225whp. If I add a turbo ($500) I will see another 35-45whp gain with potential to make an additional 150whp or so on stockblock with tuning and more upgrades, very tuner friendly turbo motors tend to be.

this car does not share the same platform as the nsx please dont listento that statment

youv got a j35 the same as a v6 accord or mdx as for adding power its possible theres a supercharger for the car under 5grand this platform is very advance so tuning and things like that are nt as pleny comptech and maybe skunk2 have dabble alitle ive seen the car at 320 hp but from what i can see on the cars enging is it has a single exaust port that exits dirrectly inot the cat i would say a twin turbo setup is possible the only thing you might have a problem with is the ecu but reaserch my man reaserch

I'm not so much asking for help with the car, I know it's not a super quick car, but it does already have a turbo in it. I kinda forgot to mention, I know a little about cars, and more about how to just drive. I want someone who, yes, will help me make my car faster, and with the turbo, it has good acceleration , but more than anything else, I want someone who will teach me about cars and tuning in general. I want to learn how to race, how to build a fast car, what parts are what, and which parts do what. Throw tuner/car jargon in my face, I'm screwed and confused. I want a person who is willing to take the time to take under their wing a newbie who uses driving as an escape, and wants to know more about his car and all cars. I love the adrenaline of driving and racing other nice/decent stock cars on the road, I just honestly don't know that much about cars and parts and tuning, and I need someone willing to take the time to teach . I don't have any really good teacher or, for that matter, parental and friend figures in my life, because I've either lost them all because of fighting and problems, or they're dead. Just looking for a teacher, guide, and friend, no matter the age.

P.S. Cashboogie, thanks for the help, and just in case this helps youfigure anything else out, it IS a dual exhaust.

You would of had to add that aftermarket, because straight from the factory, there turboless. If you added the turbo yourself, seems like your off to a good start on knowing how to work on cars already and wouldnt need much help.

If you think that your NA car is turbo, when its not, man, you do need help.
But as for now, well I bought a pos car thinking I was going to overhaul it and didnt know anything about actually working on cars, I knew how to make them fast, but not how to do it myself. I fell assbackwards into finding a guy who helps me whenever Im having difficulty and will install parts on my car. Unless your as lucky as I was in finding a 3sgte mechanic for your Acura 3.2tl, your probably going to have to do most of the learning yourself.

So buy an intake, grab a wrench, and install it. Do simple stuff, brake pads (although youll need someone to help you bleed the system, intake, alternator if you have to, install your own stereo. All the jobs I described arent really complicated, if you look up a guide on how to do it, you can usually perform the task yourself within a day. And once your done, youll know for the rest of your life on how to do it pretty much.

Just gotta start doing the work yourself pretty much, as I was forced to on my car, in order for it to be legally driveable I had to change the struts, brakes&brake pads, new turbo hosings and a bunch of other things.

I attempted to pull the tranny myself, I was in for more than I bargained for. Even with help, I didnt know what to do and it had to be towed out 4 months later.

the best way to learn is to do it yourself if i could shown you hand to hand mechnacal combat i swear i would sometimes id even say take it to the shop im no nascar tech but i learn when my car broke down when the shop riped me off

you best bet is when the problem comes along ask as many people about it as possible then root out the one that seems logical and theres your problem but fixing it is differnt
when the problem arises just ask well help

Ha! Women! Drive! Ohhhh god that's a good joke. P.S. Thanks to all you guys for your help. I've been doing research and it does help, plus I met a guy who works at an aftermarket and car cosmetics shop who street races and he said he'd help me out if I ever needed it. Keep on coming with the advice and help though, you guys rock!

Well instead of "street racing", a term made by the media & hollywood to glorify illegal and reckless driving, I would keep it at the track since your new.

$15 and you can drag race for hours versus $thousands in legal fees or possibly being charged with vehicular homicide is a lot better.

"street racing" sounds like some word a 10 year old would say. Every time I hear it, it pisses me off because it sounds so childish.

Ok then...I do street, but yea I'll be careful and consider the track. I guess from now on instead of street reacing I'll call it underground racing? Or what about races with random people? We'll call those "spur of the moment opportunity races." =P Again, thanks for the help.../constructive criticism?
