hello, new to this forum. looks like a great atmosphere with a lot of very informed people. i was wondering if you guys would know how much a b18c5 complete engine swap into a 1998 honda civic dx would cost labor wise excluding parts. also, how much extra should i be charged for converting from an automatic to a manual (and yes, i know i should just buy a cheaper car and start from that but i dont want too

I would recommend that you do some research. Search around to find one at first, the B18 is a good engine, but its not cheap or very easy to come by. As for labor, yeah that'll cost you a bit. Parts are going to cost you as well.

For your conversion of transmission, forget about it. It's going to take alot of time and work to accomplish this task. It definitely won't be cheap, and you'll need patience for this one.

I recommend that you keep the car you have now and find another one, stick shift, and then look for the engine and whatnot. Alot easier and cheaper, less time consuming.

Keep the manual, much more fun that way! Plus if it's already manual you'll save some coin.

His best bet, if he wants a swapped civic on the cheap, is to sell this car and buy one thats already got the motor he's looking for, with the transmission he's looking for.

Will it be fast? Probably not, most civics arent fast til a minimum of 10-15k have been dropped into them. If hes got deep pockets he can swap the motor into his current car.

If not, forget about making it fast, and buy one thats already had a motor swap, swapped civics dont really retain there value all that well anyways and he would see little of that 10k returned on resale.
