im not possitive yet on wats up with my engine.  its a 96 integra gsr.  well symptoms are on start ups it blows like alot of white smoke.  after driving for a while it disappears.  i put probably put a litre of oil every week coz my engine oil is always goin on.  i dont know much about cars and i dont know what else to do.  my buddies tells me that its burning oil and i need to get a rebiuld.  is a rebuild a wise decision or is there other things i can do?  my engine has 95000k on it.  or they are saying get a swap into a type r engine.  im not rich or nothin, but what should i do?  do i get it rebuilt or get a swap instead?

while dropping in a type-r is nice, you could also go k series, but yeah time for a rebuild, if your not planning on doing anything crazy just rebuild it, if you want some power and want to put time and money into it then yeah go with a type-r or k series if you can find one

Well, white smoke usualy means that your burning coolant not oil, which is usualy the case in headgasket failure. Does the car overheat? Ususly when oil burns, the smoke is blue in color.

What I would do first is a compression test. Make sure your compression is where it should be. You should also have a leak down test performed. You may not need to tear the engine out if it's somthing like your valve seals, which can cause you to burn oil. If it is your valve seals, though, you will have to take off the cylinder head.

yeah sorry the smoke is blue.  so it could just be the valve seals and head gaskets then hey.  no the car does not over heat, is that something i have to watch out for.  so yeah im going to get those tests done.  are there other things i should keep watch for?  is it ok to keep driving and adding oil all the time?  are there like visible signs that i can atually see on the engine by just looking at it?

Unless you notice mostly white smoke, your car looses coolant and overheats, then your headgasket is fine. If you are consuming oil, then you are loosing it from either one (or somtimes both) of two places. 1) the valve seals or 2) the rings. Like I said, this can be determined by a leakdown and compression test. When my valve seals usualy went, the car would smoke the worst on takeoff and when you started it up in the morning, but when cruising around it wasn't that bad. As long as you keep checking it often and filling as needed, I don't see why you can't drive it around as it is untill it is repaired.
