Tell me do anyone think street racing is a friend or is it a foe? I use to street race. I ran every thing from chevy novas to rx7's. Does anyone think it helps the import scene or hurts it? Many people think the import scene influence street racing. wich is not true because street racing has been around along time, Way before imports became popular. what do you think?

well since i dont want to go really deep into this cause i will make alot of ppl mad but its a culture thing. cause when street racing was first popular it was the baby boomers who were doin it. now that they are the leaders of this country they dont want the current gen x'ers to have the same fun they did. so they claim it was sumthing they did to rebel  and it was accepted now they just want to control every thing and not let us have our fun but with that said i dont support it or participate cause thats what track days are for. so foe but only cause i dont find it that fun.

I use to enjoy street racing until I saw the danger in it.
When your racing you throw caution to the wind. The rush you get from high speeds and also the fact what you are doing is illegal kind of clouds your better judgement. It wasn't until I got in a accident on a stretch of road I normally race on. That day i wasn't racing but I imagined over and over if i was racing I could have been killed. I was only taveling about 65 mph when a guy ran a stop sign and tore my cousins mazda up and left me with spatia parapalegia. Just imagine if I was traveling 100-110 mph like I would have been if I was racing. I brought up this topic to get a little feed back from fellow tuners. It wasn't until my accident when I realized that street racing can be or should I say is very dangerous. if you have a need for speed keep it on the track. one day I hope open up my own track up. Just to keep people from street racing. I just wanted to share a little bit of my story with you all in hopes that it detours others from street racing.(DRIVE SAFE!)
Peace

It has nothing to do with culture. And so you know, they've been street racing since the 50's. That's way before the "baby boomers" you mentioned.

Street racing of ANY sort is a bad and dangerous idea. Enough said.

And trust me, I'm no saint when it comes to this.

I know most of us are a little guilty when it comes to street racing. I just want people to be careful. Some of these cars we customize car are "Real beast of the street" and can be dangerous if not handled properly. It's a lot of kids out there trying to race and just got their license. thats crazy! I'm guilty of that too racing my uncle's 76 buick rivera at the age of 16 on a saturday night. Then i got a ford probe gt wich wasn't that fast but I tried to gun it every chance I got. All I'm saying is BE CAREFUL out there!. As far as the mazda it wasn't mine it belonged to my cousin. It only had a back cat exhaust and a cooling system no major work done mostly bolt on stuff we got from auto zone and pep boys. we were inexperince but it did have some get up and go. Now that I have parpelega I can't drive. So now i'm just in to show cars. I'm trying to buy an import in maybe january or febuary to get ready for next summer.I was thinking of Maybe a bmw 318ti or acura integra.
something simple. for all those who read this Be careful, Slow down and enjoy life PEACE

I baisically say nay, though the temptation is always there, i would support it depending on where you are when you do it, who its with, the traffic conditions ect. would weigh my dicisions on wether or not to race. In my opinion you should not involve someone in the risk that did not elect to take it(other drivers). And just driving fast every once and a while isnt a bad thing, after all thats why we tune and you cant have all that power and use it once a month at the track and drive"miss daisy" the rest of the time. Thats the way i look at it, just doing it at the apropriate time place and condtions, and using your best judgement. Please dont hurt me

....I concur

When I was a little younger, I was doing a fair bit of racing. I had a 88 isuzu impluse. fast little car, and handled great. Mostly I just did alot of speeding. I mellowed out alot after getting a reckless driving ticket. The  ticket is framed on my wall as a reminder of what not to do. It says 135 + mph, weaving in and out of traffic, making rude gestures out of the window. The cop tailed me for 6.5 miles, I had a few people try to follow me or pass me, but he was the only one who stayed with me. I was in the back of his car with handcuffs on in a matter of minutes. I had a clean record, so he let me go. I had plenty of fines$$$$, and lawyers fees *** and I had to go to court 4 times. court was 200 miles away from home, lots of having to pay for long rides to court and back$$$$$ and owing alot of people alot of favors. Amidst all of this I suddenly realized that I could have killed someone,  NO really  I could have really killed someone. Ever since that day I have slowed down alot, and only punch it if I am passing, or every once in a while out on the open road kick it up for a  minute or two. I have not made it to the track yet, but now that I have the acura(remember I have been driving a 87 lifted nissan pathfinder fo the last 6 years) after some minor mods I hope to try the track.

Here are my thoughts. Street racing is obviously dangerous and illegal. I have participated in it, not going to lie. I think most of us are guilty to this little fact. Does it hurt the culture. Yes, and no. Yes, because it gives all tuners a bad rep, and not all mechanics and tech heads, tuners, etc street racers. that perpetuates the stereotype. I also say no because there are those out there that get involved and use their knowledge for their gains. Street racing is just one way to practice, polish, etc, and develop some skills. Plus, many people spend money to buy these parts which helps the industry, it provides more jobs, more hobbies, and events start to become more common. It's a matter of duality, it can be a double edged sword. People should just be careful and enjoy legal events if they have the opportunity. However, everyone is responsible for themselves and will do everything they choose to at their own discretion. It's about being responsible. Street racing should be done with extreme caution. Because of a few bad apples, it gives the rest of us a bad rep, we are misrepresented as a whole. It's unfortunate, but it happens all throughout our society, our world. Those are my thoughts.

We all know street racing is dangerous, but that is part of the risk weather you realize the risks or not, take for example where i live, most everyone from around the area meets up friday/saturday nights at one of the spots, and after an hour or so we all go out to an old air strip about 30 minutes from here, its nowhere near where anyone could get hurt, the only person(s) at risk are the spectators and the drivers who actually race, you just have to be ok with the risk, we've had a couple crashes, one guy ran off the end of the runway on his kawasaki ninja doing just over 100mph, the guy ended up being just fine and back out the next week doing the same things, if you ask if street racing is friend or Foe that really depends on who you ask, like the one dude said look at what street racing (or atleast part of) has done for the entire industry? if it wasnt for street racing would you have cold air intake for a civic availible on every corner?

hello everyone i have a stock looking accord but just a few extras haha and im very into street racing i started when i turned 16 with a 1996 pontiac sunfire gt 2.4 liter pretty fast and it got me in some serious trouble i got caught racing and they clocked me doing 84 in a 40 so its bad at them times and very dangerous but im 18 now and my father has talked to me over and over he has taught me some things about it but now im smarter and wiser but the cops around here now cant catch me or havent yet there cars shut off at 140 and my little accord red lines at 164 is as far as i will push it i dont wanna blow it up(h22 motors from japan are really great).but im still heavy in street racing there is just a rush u get when u do it that u wont get at the trach but i have to say there is a rite time and a wrong time to do this.i am guilty about that thoe when i was younger.but now i have to say if your just getting your license be smart about it and talk to older and wiser racer dont just jump in your car and think your hot *** because your not and you have alot to learn but i love it and will always love it but i to have to say its both friend and foe

i do it but thats in the canyons at 2am where ive been there for hours and havn't seen a single car drive on that road other than me, street racing on the freeway and roads with other drivers is stupid becasue it doesn't matter how good you think you are the other people on the road may and will react diffrently to what you might expect and thats when accidents happen, that being said, it pisses me off that the punishment is so harsh for street racers when way more people die becasue of drunk driving but thats my $.02
