First off ever sense i saw this stock celica gts beat a eclipse gt with mods iv wanted one. I found a black on with 37K miles with a 6 spd for $8,000.
Car specs: 1.8 L 185 HP stock
First my plans are to buy this XS Turbo System. This kit includes ball bearing IHI VF23 Turbocharger, a huge 24"x11"x3" XS Engineering Power IC, durable cast iron manifold, and APEXi Twin chamber blow off valve. If that wasn't enough, the XS Engineering Celica turbocharger system also comes with full stand alone fuel management, consisting of 504cc injectors, 255lph fuel pump, and an XS Engineering tuned APEXi Power FC. This sets me back nearly 5K.
I plan on getting my on B.O.V prolly a SSQV. Some after market short ram intake. A greddy evo 2 cat or a borla dual cat. No idea on n e other parts could u help me think of more parts like engine mods and whatnot. Also is this a worth wile project

the XS turbo kit for the GT-S is pretty sick. I got a chance to drive one. it made close to 300hp. great while rolling, but be ready for some crazy wheel spin and torque steer. i also got to drive XS's VF23 turbo MR-2 spyder, and it was way more fun. the handling capability of the MR-2 spyder is no comparison to the celica. and it takes well to the power seeing as how its mid engine, rwd. XS is making this kit too (using most of the same parts from the celica) this could also be an option if your looking for a newer toyota.

: That mr2 would be 1zzfe powered, if its not a swap. I looked on the boosting forums for celica's, and they said the 2zzge does not make a good boosting motor.
The 2ZZ-GE makes a fine boosted plant if you know what you're doing. Look at the new Lotus Elise they've got with a blower on it. Supposedly they're even running it unopened on 8 psi or so. Then again, this is Lotus were talking about and not some backyard hack. ![]()
If you were to do it right, it'd be awesome. It's surely no different than any of the very peaky VTEC motors Honda has made over the past years.

I'm well aware of the compression ratio of both motors... remember that I did own an MR2 myself and my ex-wife had a GT-S.
The Elise is probably making more than that. After a little tuning on the motor by Lotus engineers, they got an extra 10 horse out of it before they did anything with FI. That they're doing as well as they are without craking into it is a testament to just how good they are. Besides, too much power in that var would upset its balance. It's not designed for that and is PLENTY fast enough in stock form.

I can't place too much faith in a webpage that lists the car having a factory "turbo" motor when, in fact, it does not. It's been supercharged by Lotus, and I'd surely figure on more than a paltry 30HP by blowing it. That minimal of a gain would make all the trouble of adding FI worthless.
In all actuality, supercharging is not even an option on the Elise. It's only on the Exige. And, according to the follwing article, it only adds up to 218HP. What a shame.
