My Deuce!

Well I said good bye this week to my dream of building one heck of a sleeper... a 1996 Toyota Camry with a Toyota 3SGTE (Celica/MR2) Turbo Motor in it.

Roughly it would have cost be around $7,000+ to do the swap... not including the tranny sawp from the Carmy to a Solara 5 Speed...

Instead I spent $6000 on a pristine 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo! I wanted that 3SGTE and wouldn't ahve given up on it for the life of ***

I love the car.  It has the best stock acceletation I have ever driven... better than my friends dad;s Vett! It's amazing to say the least.  The turbo spools quickly from the twin entry intake and when it kicks it it kicks in hard!

However I have yet to have driven it on slik roads... if you are un familiar with the MR2... there is a lil thing called "Snap-Oversteer" that's literaly a killer.  When this car came out in 1990 soe car magazines said "This car is down right dangerous to drive"... the man I bought it from said it's very skiddish on slik surfaces and I'll have to be careful.

So I have to say for a person who has been driving a while and is GOOD at it... (not a kid straight out of high school who wants to go fast and has no respect for others on the road)... it's a great car.  But for the inexperianced... as of right now... it's an overly intese experiance to drive.  My back litteraly hurts from teansing up from the spooled up turbo pulling hard.

Right now the two things that I dislike about it... 1) it needs 91 Octane which here in Northern *** runs about $3.03 a gallon.  2) with one speeding ticket on my insurance record and with my good student discount... my 6 month premium is $910....

This is an expensive car to own.. but well worth it!

I love my car!

yeah... here I'll post some in a second.

It's nothing to special yet... I have big hopes and dreams for the car... say 300 HP or so... but that'll all come down the road once I have the car paid off.

I REALLY miss my deuce... especially since the guy I sold it to wrecked it. It's completely totaled and the only think salvageable was the engine and some of the suspension bits.

When I found out, I cried. Literally.

Dude.... I'm sorry. That was your blood sweat and tears in that car. Hope you have another project down the pike. I'm seriously sad to hear something like that. You could buy one in St. Louis for about $2500 that needs a new front clip.

Could he not handle the power or something?  What happened?

No. A case of dreaded MR2 design reared up and bit him hard: snap oversteer. He was too hard on the throttle trying to run a light. He lifted mid turn or so, started to feel it get squirely, and gopt back on the power a bit too hard. Once he did, he hit boost and spun.

As far as I know, he spun all the way around once and hit the streetlight dead center on in the front. He bent the frame and therefore wasted the car. Neither he nor I thought that the car would be salvageable to get the frame straightened. Cars are never quite the same once something like that happens.
